Job description

Engineering Manager

Glanbia  

Join this dynamic team focused on delivering better nutrition for every step of life's journey 

MWC is a state of the art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).

The Opportunity 

Direct engineering, and project activities for MWC.  Ensure engineering projects, initiatives, processes are in conformance with established policies and objectives, recommend changes, review progress, and approve cost estimates/proposals. Determines needed repairs for all equipment, buildings and utilities. Plans and directs the related maintenance activities in conjunction with the production schedules. 

Essential Functions

  • Manage the Capital Expense Plan:
    • Review and manage approved projects - verify progress/installation, report status to management.
    • Track the Capex plan budget.
  • Support the facilities:
  • Liason between facilies and outside engineers and contractors
  • Provide technical/engineering recommendations for new equipment/technology.
    • Maintain project documentation and transmit to facility upon completion of projects (drawings, programs, contracts, etc)
    • Project management:
      • Create CapEx proposals, including process design, scope, budget, schedule.
      • Provide estimates, solicit proposals/quotes, pre-qualify vendors/contractors.
      • Manage approved projects to performance, budget and schedule.
      • Negotiate contracts and Terms & Conditions
      • Assemble teams of internal and external resources and manage development of strategic projects.
    • Maintenance management:
      • Coordinates and directs day-to-day operations of the maintenance department including determining needed repairs and improvements, establishing project priorities and assigning work tasts, scheduling work to most effectively meet the production needs, etc.
      • Supervises and directs the maintenance staff including Maintenance Leads and Maintenance Scheduler by providing training and development, monitoring and evaluating work performance, interviewing and hiring adequate staff and disciplining staff as necessary.
      • Confers with architects, engineers, contractors, and other staff regarding maintenance projects such as progress reports, work evaluations and project details.
      • Reviews all SWC utility usage and costs for :  electric and gas, water and sewer billing and metering; and monitors energy conservation programs.
  • Documents departmental activity through SAP (the Maintenance Parts, Preventative Maintenance and Work Order Scheduling) preparation of various reports, work orders, maintenance schedules and other incidental record keeping.
  • Documents Maintenance Budget for Re-Occurring and Non Re-Occurring Expenses. Re-Occurring are the scheduled maintenance activities that are required to maintain the total facility in an operating condition. The Non Re-Occurring are the break downs and unanticipated expenses developed and tracked by SAP.
  • Approves and Supervises all outside service technicians.
  • Develops and maintains inventory of maintenance supplies and required tools and equipment.
  • Supervision:
  • Manage project teams and manage MWC Maintenance department engineers and maintenance teams.
  • Manage Utilities Department including day to day as well as project activities.
  • Manage the maintenance training program to include the Training Manager of Maintenance.
  • Develop working relationship with the GN team and support to deliver objectives.
  • Manages administrative  staff.
  • Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of MWC non-negotiables.
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health  Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree and three to five years related experience.      
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Utilize complex computer operations and advanced features of software packages (Autocad, MS Project etc.)
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
