Engineering Manager

Carv

Park City, UT โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Job description

Full-time โ€ข Hybrid (3 days minimum in office)
About Carv
Carv is building the future of sports coaching.
We combine AI, real-time feedback, and sensor-driven data to help skiers improve faster and enjoy the sport more. Our product sits at the intersection of hardware, mobile, backend systems, biomechanics, and coaching, and we care deeply about building technology that works in the real world, not just in theory.
We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team of ~7 engineers across Android, iOS, Rust, and backend. This is a high-impact role with real ownership.
You'll be responsible for line management, delivery, engineering quality, and the quality of the product your team ships.
You'll work directly with the CTO and help shape how engineering operates as Carv scales.
The role
You'll lead a cross-functional team and help them do the best work of their careers.
That means setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, building accountability, and creating an environment where engineers can move fast and perform at a high level. It also means working closely with Product to turn ambitious goals into plans that actually ship.
At Carv, quality means more than clean code and low crash rates. Our product has to work on snow, for real skiers, in real conditions. You'll be responsible for making sure features are properly validated in the real world, whether through ski testing yourself or by working closely with others to ensure great testing happens on snow.
We're also an AI-first engineering organisation. We want leaders who are excited by AI and already using it heavily, but who also understand that AI only works well when the surrounding system is strong. Clear specs, good context, shared workflows, careful review, solid testing, and real-world validation all matter. We want someone who can help a team use AI for real leverage, not just hype.
What you'll do
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers across Android, iOS, Rust, and backend, with full ownership of line management, performance, growth, and hiring.
  • Partner with Product and the CTO to turn priorities into clear plans, manage trade-offs, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Own the quality of the product your team ships, including real-world validation on snow through direct ski testing or close collaboration with others.
  • Work with senior engineers on architecture, technical direction, quality, and execution standards.
  • Help the team get real leverage from AI by combining strong usage with clear workflows, review standards, testing, and structure.

What we're looking for
  • Experience managing strong engineers in a startup or scale-up, with the technical judgment to guide decisions and earn trust.
  • Hands-on engineering experience shipping code to production in a fast-paced company, with enough depth to understand trade-offs, review technical decisions, and credibly support the team.
  • Strong product instinct and a sharp eye for quality, including real-world validation of the customer experience.
  • Clear, direct communication style with a strong ability to build accountability and handle performance well.
  • Strong AI fluency, high standards, and a bias for action.

Why join Carv
Carv produces a wearable ski motion sensor paired with an AI coaching app. It measures biomechanics in real time, scores skiing ability across disciplines, and delivers personalised audio coaching on snow. We are leading the personal sport coaching market, with growing retention, strong word-of-mouth acquisition, and a dedicated community of skiers who rely on Carv throughout their season.
We need an engineering leader to help us scale the team and the technology behind this product. This means working across mobile, backend, AI, data, and hardware systems, and making sure the product performs in the real world, on the mountain, in the moment.
In practical terms, this means working directly with the CTO to improve how engineering operates, raise the quality bar, strengthen technical decision-making, and help strong engineers do their best work. The engineering culture, team structure, development processes, and AI-first ways of working are all open to be shaped.
This is a leadership role with genuine scope to define how Carv builds software as we scale through one of the most consequential points in the company's trajectory.
