Position Description Job Summary: The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres, and several wetlands mitigation banks, including Greens Bayou. The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the Design Technician position, which is responsible for providing drafting, record research, and data entry to support the Maintenance Engineering program under the direct supervision of the Engineers and Designers

Essential Functions & Duties: CAD & Drafting Use computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software to draft detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related construction documents from detailed surveys. Convert rough sketches or drawings, and other engineering data received from the maintenance engineering designers or engineers into CAD drawings. Plot construction plans showing profiles and cross-sections.

Records & Documentation Research archived drawings to determine the availability of existing plans on past projects. Prepare record drawings. Prepare maps and exhibits required by the department engineers.

Calculations Compute quantities of excavation and fill and other related construction materials for each project. Additional Duties Assume additional responsibilities as required, adapting to the District's evolving demands, responsibilities, needs, and objectives. Experience with AutoCAD software. Licensure: Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), GIS Software, and Arc Map. Familiar with SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Work independently and as part of a team, taking ownership of tasks and performing well in an office environment under tight deadlines and pressure.
