Job description

Service Wire Company, a premier supplier of industrial and utility wire and cable, is currently seeking a Product Design Engineer in Houston, TX or Culloden, WV. If you are looking to join a great organization and a chance to become a part of our growing team, this may be the opportunity for you! 
Position Summary: 
With responsibility for all ongoing maintenance of specification and product attributes, the Product Design Engineer will collaborate throughout the organization internally and externally to ensure accurate product descriptions and answer specific application queries.  An ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and experienced in product management specifically in an industrial segment.  The role will require communications with a wide variety of stakeholders throughout the internal team, manufacturer’s representatives’ networks and customer base. 

Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Aid Corporate Engineering Manager in establishing customer-focused product objectives, specification priorities, and ongoing performance norms
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to ensure evolution of products
  • Maintain specifications and attributes throughout the Company catalog
  • Audit current production processes and parameters to ensure specifications are met by product type
  • Ensure process engineering focused tasks for cost savings and production gains through the production process maintain specification standards
  • Prepares periodic status updates for leadership teams
  • Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies
  • Collaborates with end users and external specifying engineers to ensure proper products are offered for specific application needs
  • Oversee ongoing product development realization related to specification and end user markets
  • Research ongoing specification opportunities to enter new markets alongside the sales teams
  • Manage compliance with customer specifications and work alongside Quality Assurance and Control to ensure adherence
  • Primary interface with outside customers for electrical related product inquiries and clarifications
Knowledge/Skills/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field required; advanced degree in Business, Engineering or other related field a plus.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in design, specification engineering, or other related field preferred.
  • Industrial experience required; wire and cable or electrical background preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient specification experience; preferably within the electrical industry. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with multiple teams.
  • Experience in quality systems and understanding of specification requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of software such as ETap and circuit design.
  • Experience with UL, ASTM, ICEA & NFPA Wire and Cable regulations a plus.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Willingness to be available for technical inquires as they arrive.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Special Position Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Some travel required (20-25%) to other our other facilities
