A Senior Learning Experience Design Specialist plays a vital role in the design and development of engaging and effective learning experiences for today's modern learner. They create learner-centered educational content by applying basic instructional design principles and utilizing modern technology and multimedia tools. Working closely with design specialists, lead specialists and subject matter experts, they help identify learning objectives, curate existing materials or develop interactive materials, and utilize platforms such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and mobile learning applications.

Their responsibilities include rapid e-learning design and curation, gathering user feedback, analyzing data to improve learning solutions, and ensuring accessibility and relevance of the content for diverse learners.


By staying updated with the latest trends in e-learning and technology, they help bring efficient and engaging learning experiences to Abbott Cancer Diagnostic's learners to support organizational goals in employee development and performance enhancement.

This position is based in our Madison, WI office location.

Essential Duties


Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Partner with functional teams, Subject Matter experts (SMEs), and other stakeholders to do rapid iteration design, develop, and implement practical learning experiences aligned to business objectives.
  • Create learning experiences and multimedia-based content for learners using multiple delivery systems and modalities.
  • Evaluate, update and revise existing content to meet the learning objectives and needs of our employees.
  • Apply adult learning principles and systematic instructional design to create learning experiences and content that best fit the needs of the learner.
  • Conduct needs assessments and prioritization of design projects.
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate learning technologies to aid in delivery of learning solutions with the Abbott Cancer Diagnostics learning ecosystem.
  • Engage and interact with key stakeholders (SMEs, leaders, deciders) to pilot and validate learning solutions.
  • Apply strategies to engage learners from infographics, e-learning, and social learning to job aides, role plays, and gamification.
  • Ability to design within company design standards ensuring consistency in language, terminology, branding, and that all designs meet ADA standards.
  • Convert information into easily used and understood text and graphics.
  • Support audio and video production by working with the design team to schedule locations, voice actors, equipment, etc.
  • Take ideas/concepts and translate them into objectives, outlines, plans, etc.
  • Integrate learning technologies into training programs.
  • Plan and execute learning projects.
  • Apply UX design principles to enhance learning experiences.
  • Stay updated with e-learning trends and technologies.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Execute standard intake and prioritization process for design requests.
  • Participate in consultation and support of learning design self-service resource center.
  • Contribute to a team based, collaborative learning environment.
  • Source and evaluate existing resources in internal and external knowledge and learning libraries to create effective learning experiences.
  • Apply strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Exercise strong adaptability to manage evolving project requirements and dynamic work environments.
  • Incorporate strong problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles and enhance learning solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Information Technology, Human Resources, or a related field; or High School Diploma/General Education Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design and multimedia content creation.
  • Advanced understanding of adult learning theory.
  • Advance mastery in design tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Captivate, and Articulate 360.
  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning methodologies, needs of the modern learner as a consumer of information, and current trends impacting organizational development.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), Learning Experience Platforms, and other app based or mobile learning platforms.
  • Experience doing instructor lead training or facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Experience in project planning and execution.
  • Advanced skills in user testing and feedback implementation.

The base pay for this position is

$78,000.00 - $156,000.00
