Position Summary
Zachry Engineering Corporation is seeking a Piping Design Team Leader / Senior Piping Designer to join the Charlotte Design Center. This role serves as a technical and team leader responsible for piping layout execution, coordination, and quality oversight on large-scale power, energy, and industrial projects. The position supports project delivery by producing constructible, code-compliant piping designs while mentoring designers and coordinating multidisciplinary efforts.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute piping layout and 3D modeling activities, ensuring constructability, safety, maintainability, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Serve as the piping design team leader, directing and coordinating the work of designers and drafters.
  • Develop, review, and approve piping plans, arrangements, sections, isometrics, and construction deliverables.
  • Manage assigned piping scope or areas on large, complex projects under the direction of the Group Supervisor or Discipline Manager.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and construction teams to resolve layout and interface issues.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to piping design staff.
  • Review vendor and shop drawings for compliance with project requirements and layout intent.
  • Support planning activities including schedules, manpower estimates, progress tracking, and quality control.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Associate Degree with relevant drafting or design coursework.
  • 12+ years of piping design and layout experience, preferably supporting power generation or large industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating piping design teams.
  • Strong knowledge of piping codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Advanced CAD experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit.
  • Experience with Plant 3D and/or AVEVA E3D preferred.
  • Proficiency with CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Certificate in Design/Drafting.
  • Direct experience with power plant piping systems, including turbine buildings, HRSGs, balance-of-plant, or utility systems.
