GHD's Design & Delivery Organization (DDO) is seeking a Senior Architect to lead and grow our northern California architectural delivery team members. This role combines technical knowledge, people leadership, and project delivery responsibilities supporting complex architectural projects while advancing DDO standards, delivery excellence, and employee development.

This position will be based in GHD's San Francisco office and will partner closely with regional leadership, project managers, and other business groups across the West Region.
Key Responsibilities
People & Team Leadership
  • Provide direct people leadership for northern California architectural delivery employees, including coaching, mentoring, and technical development.
  • Build, grow, and retain a high-performing delivery team aligned with GHD's values and delivery expectations.
  • Support workload planning, resource coordination, and team utilization in collaboration with GHD's DDO and regional leadership goals.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-focused team culture.

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
  • Serve as Senior Technical Lead for complex medium to large design projects, including locally administered, nationally administered, private/federally funded and design-build projects.
  • Lead and oversee project delivery from pursuit through construction, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
  • Apply sound architectural judgment and commercial acumen to proactively identify risks, resolve issues, and deliver projects to brief and budget.
  • Support and implement GHD delivery standards, processes, and best practices across Architectural projects.
  • Lead and implement GHD's Quality Assurance and Quality Control protocols and procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate subconsultants and multi-discipline teams.

Education
  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.

Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in commercial architecture, with a strong background in planning, design, and project delivery.
  • Registered Professional Architect in the State of California is preferred.
  • LEED, DBIA, AICP, PMP certifications are preferred
  • Proven success providing technical mentorship and people leadership to midsize (6-12 people) internal teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in the delivery of complex architectural projects within the US, including municipal, state or federally funded projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines, including IBC, California Building Code and applicable industry codes.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, with demonstrated experience producing architectural construction documents, BIM modeling, consultant coordination, and technical detailing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Bluebeam, CAD, and Revit is essential, with the ability to independently and efficiently produce, review, and modify technical drawings and project documentation
  • A passion for developing people and strengthening technical capabilities within a delivery-focused organization.
  • Demonstrated excellence across the full project life cycle, from pursuits and feasibility through design and delivery.
  • Strong professional judgment and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
