Job description

As a Production Design Manager, you will be responsibale to supervise and coordinate all production design activities, ensuring that Davie’s technical, quality, and schedule requirements are fully implemented during the Production Design Phase. Acting as the technical liaison between Davie and the subcontractor, the Manager, Production Design ensures that the transformation of functional design inputs into production-ready deliverables aligns with Davie’s standards, constructability expectations, and production strategy. More specifically you will: Monitor and guide the subcontractor’s production design activities to ensure compliance with Davie’s specifications, standards, and work instructions.

Validate that all production outputs (2D drawings, 3D models, work packages) are correctly derived from the approved functional design and meet quality expectations. Review and approve production design documentation as per the project’s governance framework, in coordination with the Technical Manager. Serve as the on-site engineering point of contact between Davie and the subcontractor’s design teams.

Ensure seamless communication and alignment with Davie’s Technical Manager regarding design maturity, technical queries, and change management. Represent Davie in coordination meetings, design reviews, and issue resolution forums at the subcontractor’s site. Support the subcontractor in the development of manufacturable and optimized production deliverables, including structural and outfitting drawings, digital models, and work instructions.

Ensure integration of all disciplines (structure, piping, HVAC, electrical, etc.) within the production design deliverables and alignment with build strategy. Monitor the timely issuance of production documentation in accordance with the project schedule and deliverable tracker. Implement quality control checkpoints and review procedures to prevent errors and rework in production documentation.

Enforce adherence to class rules, contract requirements, and Davie engineering processes. Facilitate the incorporation of production feedback, lessons learned, and constructability improvements into the design process. Provide regular progress reports, risk assessments, and escalation of critical issues to Davie engineering leadership.

Track the status of design deliverables, non-conformances, and open technical actions. Support audits, reviews, and client interfaces on site, as required. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 15 years of experience in shipbuilding.

College degree or diploma in a related field of study. Good knowledge of shipbuilding production processes. Ability to work in a confident, self-directed manner while prioritizing a large volume of work.

Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers, stakeholders or clients Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with individuals at all levels of the organization. Familiarity with vessel systems, vessel outfitting, and vessel construction.

Experience working with AVEVA Marine Engineering or similar would be considered an asset. Experience with AutoCAD, PLM or ERP would be an asset. Scheduling experience would be an asset.

Strong MS Office tool capability is required. The ability to process information quickly and manage several tasks simultaneously. The ability to work cooperatively within diverse teams, work groups, and across the organization to achieve group and organizational goals.

Successful completion of the security screening process and obtainment of the required security clearance under the Federal Government’s Contract Security Program (minimum of 5 years of residency in Canada, with no interruption of 6 consecutive months
