Job description

SUMMARY:
This position as a Field Scientist Intern is one of part-time employment. The employee will participate in scientific fieldwork such as storm water sampling, assistance with wetland assimilation monitoring, and various other tasks. Assignments will mostly occur in the field at study sites or sample locations with some work taking place at Providence's Baton Rouge office. Major work locations are in East Baton Rouge Parish, St. Tammany Parish, and St. Mary Parish.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Forestry, Wetland Plant, or Sampling Experience is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Mindfulness, motivation, and a willingness to work.

ATTRIBUTES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with Wetland Assimilation Monitoring:
  • Collection of leaves with from leaf litter traps;
  • Measurement of diameter at breast height of trees within study plots;
  • Assistance with soil, sediment, and vegetation sampling;
  • Assistance with sediment accretion measurements; and
  • Assistance with Rod-Surface Elevation Table installation.
  • Assist with storm water sampling.
  • Work safely and follow all Providence safety standards and guidelines as well as those of our clients.
