Job description

Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Classification: Exempt Reports to: Design and Engineering Manager Date: June 29 Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for assisting with inโ€‘house engineering and design work. This may include creating and editing 3D models, CNC program files, and 2D technical drawings. The position reports to the Design and Engineering manager. In addition, the Mechanical Design Engineer may work on the shop floor to learn and assist layโ€‘up, assembly, and outfit of components.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The general expectations will include, but not be limited to the following:

  1. Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
  2. Planning and executing mechanical designs using CAD, CAM, and 3D CAD programs.
  3. Computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, clearances, and tolerances.
  4. Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
Additional Functions
  1. A key member of the design and engineering department, this position also provides support to the CNC team, production, and quality departments to ensure our customers' requirements are being met.
  2. Ensuring that products meet compliance regulations.
  3. Preparing technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.
  4. Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This position requires time spent on the shop floor and exposure to shop elements including noise, moving parts, dust and fumes. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and conferencing equipment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work in noisy and dust filled spaces, climb on and around large structures, and sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Position Type & Expected Work Hours

This is a fullโ€‘time salaried position, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.โ€“3:30 p.m. This position may require longer hours and weekend work.

Travel

Minimal travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience.
  3. Knowledge of production and manufacturing processes and techniques.
  4. Skilled in SolidWorks.
  5. Excellent computer skills.
  6. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred Education & Experience
  1. Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  2. Knowledge of composite raw materials.
  3. Knowledge of machines and tools.
  4. BOM development.
  5. Rhino 5 experience.
  6. Experience in FEA.
