Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Facility Design Section Manager 2 - TDP to join our team and support the Sentinel Program. This role will be based in Roy, UT.

What You'll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will become a Section Manager & Design Engineer for the Infrastructure Design Team (INF). This role supports the design, modeling, and integration efforts for various design element releases for Sentinel Launch Facilities, Launch Centers, or Test Facilities. Candidate will be responsible to manage a motivated team of engineers within a matrixed functional organization with the associated Assignment Manger(s).

Candidate will demonstrate ability to communicate effectively across engineering disciplines and design teams. Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively to resolve issues, determine priorities, and implement solutions.

As a section manager you will manage a team of individual contributors, these individuals may support one or more programs within SDS.

  • Provide performance feedback, training, mentoring and coaching to your employees.

  • Support workforce planning and maintain sufficient depth and breadth of skillsets within your team's core discipline to meet program needs.

  • Responsible for employee performance reviews and supporting employee career development.

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, external stakeholders, peers, and employees.

  • Support development and refinement of processes and tools that support business areas and programs in achieving their missions.

  • Support proposal work, independent technical reviews, program standup and audits, and special assignments on an as needed basis.

  • Support employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.

As a design engineer, specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil/structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and facilities.

  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.

  • Subject matter expert supporting the design of high complexity civil/structural systems, including structural steel design drawings, concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.

  • Review structural design/selection/engineering for modularized fabrication.

  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.

  • Review subcontractors design product quality/accuracy by reviewing facility designs and validating that current standards are applied and integrated into the design solution.

  • Support the delivery of Construction Drawings and Specifications Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs, Product Definition Package (PDPs), interface models, and additional design artifacts.

  • Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues

  • Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.

  • Developing and maturing facility designs that meet applicable codes and regulations.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 8 years' experience; 6 years' experience with a Master's degree;

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance as a condition of continued employment.

  • Experience in one or more of the following: Civil/Structural, Mechanical, electrical design on MILCON or major infrastructure/building projects.

  • Extensive experience reviewing subcontractors design product quality/accuracy by reviewing civil designs and validating that current standards are applied and integrated into the design solution.

  • Extensive experience reviewing Civil Technical Data Packages, Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs and models.

  • Experience with structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues

  • Experience with Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications, and be able to use the Internet as an information gathering and communications tool.

  • Supervisory or management responsibilities for projects engaged in research and/or product development in more than one engineering discipline.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts to both Government and corporate leadership

  • Ability to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction

  • Expertise in project design/model reviews.

  • Extensive knowledge and/or experience with site development, grading, utilities, stormwater management, operations and property description

  • Extensive knowledge of cost estimation of site civil improvements

  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as construction drawings, specifications and associated calculations.

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), International Building Code (IBC) Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and MIL-STD codes and standards.

  • Civil Engineer Fundamentals of Engineering or Civil Engineer Professional Registration

  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts and technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders

  • Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) License with any state

  • 2 years experience in a people leadership role, or 4 years experience as a technical lead

  • Experience in project management including control/cost account management, Microsoft project, and Visio

  • Proficiency with Revit, Siemens NX and Teamcenter

  • Experience with Uniform Facility Criteria, Uniform Facilities Guide Specifications

  • Experience with stormwater analysis

  • Exposure to weapons system program requirements

  • Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of a technical baseline.

  • Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.

  • Developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, STAAD).

  • Experience with Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications, and be able to use the Internet as an information gathering and communications tool.

  • Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction

Primary Level Salary Range: $126,600.00 - $189,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
