Job description

THE ROLE

The Position: The Design Engineer is responsible for producing and maintaining designs for our products. This position is competent in engineering fundamentals, uses established procedures as well as helping to develop and coordinate new designs, assemblies, and methods to evaluate. 


WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Manage projects in the design of complex parts and assemblies using Catia or other tools as needed with minimal guidance from management.
  • Understand stress/thermal analysis on parts and complex assemblies using classical and numerical FEA methods.
  • Understand monitor and report results of all small-scale tests as well as large scale tests.
  • Travel to manufacturing plants to assist implementation of new designs and processes.
  • Work with vendors to obtain required materials.
  • Meet with customers and make presentations with minimal support from Sales personnel.
  • Supervise and mentor Design Engineers on large projects.
  • Write material specifications.
  • Use product and market knowledge to propose new methods, materials, and products.
  •  Maintain technical competency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanic Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in highway trailer engineering (or equivalent).  In depth product and overall market knowledge as well as originality and creativity  are expected
  • Skills: Ability to manage a cross-functional team with multiple concurrent projects, works with other departments, make reports to Management, and meet un-supervised with customers.
  • Engineering capabilities expected of a graduate engineer plus ability to manage engineering teams.
  • Ability to motivate teams to meet goals on schedule and manage multiple projects with frequent changes need and priority.
  • Travel: Approximately 2-5 days per month.
