What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Design Collective member, and why are they important?

To thrive as a member of a Design Collective, you need strong design fundamentals, creativity, and collaborative experience, often supported by a degree in design or related field. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and project management platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and openness to feedback help individuals excel in group-based creative environments. These skills ensure effective teamwork, innovative solutions, and the successful execution of collective design projects.

How do members of a Design Collective typically collaborate on projects and maintain a cohesive creative vision?

Members of a Design Collective often work in cross-functional teams, bringing together different specializations such as graphic design, UX/UI, and branding. Collaboration is usually facilitated through regular brainstorming sessions, shared digital workspaces, and feedback loops to ensure everyone's ideas are considered. Maintaining a cohesive creative vision involves establishing clear project guidelines and open communication, while still allowing individual creativity to shine. This collaborative approach can be both rewarding and challenging, as it requires balancing diverse perspectives and ensuring project milestones are met.

What is a Design Collective?

A Design Collective is a group of creative professionals—such as graphic designers, illustrators, architects, and other visual artists—who collaborate to work on design projects, share resources, and inspire each other. These collectives can range from informal networks to formally organized studios or cooperatives. The goal is often to foster creativity, share skills, and tackle larger or more diverse projects than individuals might handle alone. Many design collectives emphasize community, experimentation, and support within the creative industry.

Job description

BTB Design Collective -- Cabinet Sales Partnership Opportunity

Company: Beyond the Box (BTB) Location: Remote / Territory-based Type: Independent Business Partnership

Run Your Own Cabinet Sales Business. We've Got Your Back.

Beyond the Box (BTB), a kitchen and bath company headquartered in Billings, MT, is expanding the BTB Design Collective, a kitchen & bath partnership program for cabinet sales businesses, designers, builders, and Kitchen & Bath sales designers.

This is not an employment opportunity. Design Collective Partners are independent businesses or individuals such as designers that sell cabinetry to their own customers under their own brand. BTB is your wholesale supplier, potential design support team, and thought partner in cabinetry sales. You are not a BTB employee, or independent contractor; you're building your own business with a national platform behind you.

If you're already running a design business, selling cabinetry, working in kitchen & bath, or a design-build business this may be the opportunity for you. If you want access to premium cabinet lines, drafting support, and proven systems without the overhead of building it all yourself, the BTB Design Collective may be a fit.

What You Get as a Partner

  • Access to premium cabinetry
  • Drafting and design support potential through Orange Design Team (ODT)
  • 30/60/90-day onboarding plan
  • Product training and manufacture learning academy access
  • Warranty and vendor claim support
  • You control your income and earning potential

Who This Is Built For

  • Independent kitchen & bath sales designers
  • Builders, general contractors, and carpenters
  • Interior design firms adding cabinetry
  • Architectural firms seeking cabinetry and cabinet design
  • Kitchen & Bath showrooms in need of design support
  • Design-build operations scaling into full cabinet projects

Qualifications

  • Cabinetry-related sales & project management experience
  • Working knowledge of cabinetry, manufacturer catalogs, and spatial planning
  • Proficiency in 2020 Design, Chief Architect, SketchUp, or comparable design software
  • Strong business development and consultative selling skills
  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office, digital file management, and CRM tools
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Design-build experience
  • Entrepreneurial background in home construction or design
  • Prior experience running your own business or sales pipeline
  • Formal education in design or construction (not required)

Earning Potential

You set your goals and your income. There is no commission structure and no cap. Partners who actively run their pipeline can realistically clear $100,000+/year.
