Job Announcement
The City of Chandler Police Department, Operational Support Bureau is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as Community Relations Specialist. This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits. The anticipated work schedule is Tuesday - Friday, 8am - 6pm. This position provides direct support to the Police Chief and command staff while assisting with precinct-level crime prevention initiatives and projects that enhance public safety.

Who we are
The City of Chandler Police Department, consisting of 362 sworn officers and 177 civilians, serves a growing population of close to 287,945 residents. The organization is divided into three main divisions, one bureau, and many sections/units. The Patrol Operations Division consisting of three precincts, 1) Main Station - Downtown & North Chandler, 2) Desert Breeze - West Chandler, and 3) Chandler Heights - South Chandler, work in concert with the Criminal Investigations Division, Operational Support Division, and Professional Services Division to meet the needs of the community. The members of the Chandler Police Department are dedicated to the advancement of community policing and the development of a partnership with our citizens. Who we are looking for
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment; and is competently able to do the following when assigned to the Chandler Police Department:
  • Plans, coordinates, and promotes Community Programs such as: Chandler Police Citizen's Academy, R.A.D., Youth Programs, Crime Prevention activities, etc.
  • Tasks for these programs include: updating website, managing communication throughout duration of programs, recruits and screens participants, proactively contacting multi-family housing communities about crime trends, engaging with homeowners associations related to crime prevention, and administrative planning.
  • Manage the Chandler Police C3 Multi-housing program; processes registrations, inspection and yearly renewals.
  • Provides educational information on crime prevention; responds to community inquiries.
  • Strong communication and public speaking abilities: Interacting with community members while representing the Police Department at displays within the community and engaging in impromptu interactions with community members, groups, leaders, businesses, and organizations.
  • Maintain files and creates, maintains, and updates databases relevant to crime prevention. Databases to include: budget management programs, spreadsheet, report writing programs, and various presentation platforms. (Ex: Excel, Canva, PowerPoint, report redaction software, Oracle)
  • Develops and enhances professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare memorandums and other correspondence and documents.
  • Coordinates course instruction for a variety of classes.

Minimum qualifications
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by some college coursework; and
  • Must possess at least 3-years prior work experience in administrative support that includes public contact; and
  • Must be able to attain a DPS Terminal Operator Certification within 6 months of hire; and
  • Must be able to attain a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Instructor Certification within 1-year of hire; and
  • Must be able to attain an Arizona POST General Instructor Certification within 1-year of hire; and
  • Must possess or be able to attain a valid Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work will be considered.

Desired qualifications
  • Former or Retired POST Certified Peace Officers are preferred

Work is performed under the supervision of a Police Sergeant or designated supervisor. This position does not supervise others.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits, with a varied work schedule to Tuesday - Friday, 8am - 6pm. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 6 months should another position become available.
