Job Summary
The Senior Investment Operations Analyst is an advanced individual contributor that provides subject matter expertise in specialized investment operations areas such as derivatives, corporate actions, pricing, or performance reporting. The analyst may also have deep market expertise in a core settlement function that is essential to business operations. The analyst leads complex reconciliations, drives operational enhancements, and collaborates across departments to support strategic initiatives.
This highly experienced middle office Investment Operations professional excels in a high-pressure environment having responsibilities across all activities including trading, settlements, derivative and corporate action and related investment life cycle activities performed within the Investment Operations team.
This role leverages excellent collaboration skills and a high level of analytical and industry expertise to ensure efficiency and accuracy in supporting a wide range of asset classes, resolving complex technical and managerial issues.
The Senior Analyst leads complex operational activities, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Additionally, this role contributes to system implementations, begins to identify risk and inefficiencies, and contributes to process improvement initiatives.
Success in this role involves deep cross-functional collaboration, advanced problem-solving capabilities analytical precision. The ability to confidently engage with stakeholders and solidify credibility as a support partner is critical.
The Senior Investment Operations Analyst mentor junior analysts answering questions while providing feedback and guidance.
Thrivent's Investment Operations function performs middle office work including analytics to execute the trade, reporting, process infrastructure and post-trade execution support. This team is a critical link enabling the front office to focus on investment strategies and client relations and provides the back office with accurate data for reconciliation and accounting.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Investment Operations & Trade Support
  • Provide lead-level operational support for complex trading across domestic, foreign, and derivative products, including order processing and settlement instructions.
  • Oversee end-to-end trade processing and settlement activities; investigate and resolve trade and reconciliation issues.
  • Support investment processes and transactions in specialized asset classes such as bank loans, collateral management, corporate actions, and private assets.
  • Analyze and report on positions and exposures related to multi-managed product trading with internal and external portfolio managers.
  • Assist in implementing investment strategies aligned with portfolio objectives and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, traders, brokers, custodians, fund accountants, and internal teams to communicate complex transactional activity and resolve issues.
  • Foster strong partnerships with external stakeholders including brokers, custodians, and key vendors to ensure timely resolution and efficient processing.
  • Engage with legal teams to execute trading agreements and support market onboarding practices.

Process Improvement & Strategic Initiatives
  • Lead or contribute to large-scale planning initiatives focused on operational efficiency, automation, and workflow enhancements.
  • Design and implement new business processes and regulatory changes impacting investment operations.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to mitigate risk and strengthen compliance controls.

Compliance, Reporting & Audit Support
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, compliance policies, and investment guidelines.
  • Support audit and regulatory reviews through documentation and reporting.
  • Generate and distribute investment-related reports and operational dashboards.

Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff and management on complex issues and special projects.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve multi-faceted operational challenges.
  • Drive project deliverables independently with minimal oversight.

Job Qualifications
Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with investment operations, fund accounting, custody or related financial services.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related area.
  • Deep understanding of investment lifecycle and operational risk.
  • Strong understanding of securities operations, derivatives, and accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, data management tools and trading and risk management systems.
  • Strong background and experience with systems such as Aladdin, Bloomberg, Eagle, SimCorp, Clearwater, Advent, FactSet, Markit EDM, Capital IQ or similar platforms.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated independent judgement to troubleshoot and resolve higher complexity issues.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to provide thought leadership and guidance to more junior research analysts.
  • Strong team collaboration and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance to more junior analysts.
  • Ability to articulate Investment operations desires across business lines and a developed understanding of the overall firm and/or experienced understanding of specialized discipline(s).
  • Ability to think through a complex process, understand related impacts and provide solution-based feedback to key stakeholders based on that understanding.

Preferred:
  • Experience with system implementations or migrations.
  • Advanced Excel, SQL, or data visualization skills.
  • Strong mentorship and leadership capabilities.
  • Experience supporting operational initiatives or contributing to large-scale projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of asset servicing, performance, and attribution concepts.
  • Experience supporting institutional client reporting and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with operational risk frameworks and compliance policies.

Additional Information
  • This position requires you to work on-site in Minneapolis, MN a minimum of three days a week.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $89,895.00 - $121,621.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
