Job description

D.H. Griffin Infrastructure, a leading Heavy Civil Construction contractor in North Carolina, is seeking a Construction Quality Engineer to join our team. As part of the D.H. Griffin Companies, we leverage decades of expertise in demolition and civil construction to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Assistant Quality Manager and project teams to ensure that all construction activities meet or exceed contract specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities
  • Lead and document inspections and quality audits throughout all phases of construction, including earthwork, structures, and utilities, to verify compliance with contract drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) by investigating root causes, coordinating resolutions with project teams, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of quality checklists, forms, and inspections by project teams, utilizing and maintaining tracking tools.
  • Collaborate with the Survey team for pre-construction quality assurance and as-built quality control verification.
  • Conduct training sessions for field personnel on quality standards, procedures, and expectations based on project requirements and upcoming work activities.
  • Perform material delivery inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, approved submittals, and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Material Science, or Geology; or at least 4 years of experience in industrial or heavy civil construction.
  • Knowledge of standards related to underground utility construction (such as AWWA C600, ASTM C1244, ASTM F1417, Uni-bell UNI-B-6-98, and NFPA 24) and civil construction (including NCDOT Standards Specifications for Roads and Structures, NCDOT ESC Manual, and NPDES).
  • Preferred: Certifications such as Paving Inspector Certification (PIC), National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), American Concrete Institute (ACI), state DOTs, International Code Council (ICC), National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology (NICET), American Welding Society (AWS), American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), or Northeast Transportation Training and Certification Program (NETTCP).
