What is a demo team?

A demo team is a group of individuals who showcase products, services, or technologies to prospective customers, clients, or the public. Their main role is to demonstrate how a product works, highlight its features, and answer any questions from the audience. Demo teams are commonly found in industries like retail, technology, and food, and they are often present at trade shows, in-store events, or special promotions. Their goal is to generate interest and drive sales by providing hands-on experiences. Excellent communication and product knowledge are essential skills for demo team members.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a demo team member?

To thrive as a Demo Team member, you need strong product knowledge, sales skills, and customer service abilities, often supported by experience in retail or promotions. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, inventory tracking tools, and sometimes food handling certifications are commonly required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and enthusiasm help engage customers and effectively showcase products. These skills are crucial for driving sales, building brand awareness, and creating a positive customer experience during product demonstrations.

What is the difference between Demo Team vs Sales Representative?

AspectDemo TeamSales Representative
Primary RoleConduct product demonstrations to showcase features and benefitsSell products or services directly to customers
Required SkillsProduct knowledge, presentation skills, communicationSales techniques, negotiation, customer relationship management
Work EnvironmentEvent spaces, trade shows, client sitesOffice, client meetings, retail locations
Common CertificationsProduct-specific training, presentation skillsSales certifications, CRM training

While both roles involve engaging with clients, the Demo Team focuses on demonstrating products to generate interest, whereas Sales Representatives actively close sales and build customer relationships. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and employer expectations in sales and marketing industries.

How does the demo team typically interact with sales and product development teams?

Demo Team members frequently collaborate with both sales and product development teams to ensure product demonstrations are tailored to client needs and accurately represent the latest features. They often receive feedback from sales representatives regarding client pain points and relay this information to product development for future enhancements. This cross-functional teamwork enables demo specialists to create compelling presentations and address technical questions, making strong communication skills and adaptability essential for success in the role.

Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly technical and creative Demo Engineer to join our Technology Solutions & Presales (TSP) organization. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining world-class demonstration environments that enable our Solutions Engineering team to effectively showcase the value of our platform to customers and partners.

As a Demo Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Product Marketing, and Solutions Engineering, transforming complex technical capabilities into compelling customer-facing experiences. You will help define how our products are demonstrated globally, ensuring field teams have scalable, reliable, and impactful demo assets that accelerate sales cycles and elevate customer engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Build & Maintain Demo Environments

    • Design, build, and manage demonstration environments that accurately reflect real-world customer scenarios.
    • Configure cloud services, integrations, datasets, workflows, and personas that support compelling product storytelling.
    • Ensure demo platforms remain updated with product releases, feature enhancements, and roadmap developments.
    • Proactively identify and resolve technical issues within demo environments before customer-facing engagements.
    • Develop reusable demo frameworks that can be leveraged across multiple sales motions and customer segments.

Enable Presales Excellence

    • Partner closely with Solutions Engineers to understand field requirements and customer use cases.
    • Create standardized demo assets, scripts, and technical narratives that drive consistency across the organization.
    • Reduce demo preparation time through automation, templates, and scalable best practices.
    • Support strategic opportunities that require customized or advanced demonstration environments.
    • Help ensure technical accuracy and excellence across all customer-facing demonstrations.

Drive Technical Storytelling

    • Translate product capabilities into business outcomes that resonate with customers and prospects.
    • Design demonstrations that highlight key differentiators, competitive advantages, and measurable customer value.
    • Continuously refine demo experiences based on customer feedback, win/loss insights, and field team input.
    • Develop repeatable narratives that align with go-to-market priorities and sales plays.
    • Create engaging technical stories that simplify complex concepts for both technical and business audiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with Product Management and Engineering teams to understand upcoming releases and product innovations.
    • Collaborate with Product Marketing to align demonstrations with messaging, positioning, and campaign priorities.
    • Work alongside Sales and Solutions Engineering leadership to support strategic initiatives and enablement programs.
    • Gather and incorporate customer and field feedback to continuously improve demo environments and assets.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, Solution Architecture, Technical Enablement, Product Demonstrations, or a related customer-facing technical role.
  • Experience delivering software demonstrations within SaaS, Cloud, Data Security, Governance, Collaboration, or Enterprise IT environments.
  • Strong technical aptitude and understanding of modern cloud platforms and enterprise technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts in a simple, compelling manner.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and maintaining demo environments, proof-of-concept environments, technical labs, or sandbox environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint, Data Security, Compliance, Governance, or AI solutions.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, APIs, or cloud environment provisioning.
  • Background in Presales, Product Marketing, Technical Product Management, Sales Enablement, or Solutions Consulting.
  • Experience supporting Enterprise and Strategic sales organizations.
  • Knowledge of competitive positioning and solution-based selling methodologies.
