Service Engineer - Dell PowerEdge & Enterprise Server Hardware
Location: Afton, TX, 79220 | United States | Contract
About the Role
Join a dynamic team as a Service Engineer specializing in Dell PowerEdge and enterprise server hardware. This hands-on role provides on-site technical support to ensure uptime and performance for customer server infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Deliver on-site technical support for Dell PowerEdge and enterprise servers to minimize customer downtime
- Diagnose and resolve server hardware failures and system issues promptly
- Perform hardware installation, removal, replacement, and repair (memory, CPUs, power supplies, fans, drives, RAID, NICs, GPUs, motherboards)
- Complete rack-and-stack, server installation, cabling, and hardware configuration
- Troubleshoot server hardware, BIOS/firmware, and operating system issues using diagnostics and management tools (such as Dell iDRAC)
- Conduct firmware and BIOS updates, preventive maintenance, and reactive break/fix services
- Accurately document all service activities and communicate technical updates to customers and internal teams
- Escalate complex issues as needed and participate in on-call rotation for extended support coverage
Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware in data centers or field service environments
- Expertise in diagnosing, repairing, installing, removing, and replacing server components
- Proficiency with rack-mounted server hardware, hardware diagnostics, BIOS/firmware, and management tools
- Familiarity with Linux or similar operating systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication abilities in customer-facing situations
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, travel to customer sites, and work flexible/on-call hours
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Dell PowerEdge servers
- Hardware certifications from Dell or comparable vendors
- Experience with iDRAC, iLO, or related server management platforms
- Background supporting GPU/AI server infrastructure
- Data center operations, structured cabling, or server deployment expertise
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
