Job Title: Delivery Assistant Department: Delivery

Reports To: Delivery Manager FLSA:  Non-Exempt 

Position #: 60326001 Shift: Mon-Sun, varied hours 

 

Job Summary:

Assist the Deliver Driver with all aspects of delivering products to customers in a safe, timely, and courteous manner. Perform additional tasks as requested.


Essential Functions:

  1. Interact in a friendly and positive manner with customers, vendors and employees on a daily basis.
  2. Load and unload truck with product without any damage.
  3. Assist Driver with pre-calling of customers before leaving the warehouse each morning.
  4. Responsible for auditing and stocking the truck on a daily basis of basic items (e.g., pig tails), sweeping and cleaning the truck, folding the blankets, tear down and disposal of boxes, etc.
  5. Deliver and perform basic hook-up of appliances and perform minor assembly of appliance parts to appliances (e.g. legs on washers/dryers, etc.) without any damages to the product or customer’s home.
    1. Follow all delivery policies and procedures when handling, delivering, installing and removing product.
    2. Navigate each location by using a Thomas Guide or other maps.
    3. Assist Driver to contact the Delivery Office Staff when issues arise (e.g., product doesn’t fit, damage to product and discount needed, etc.).
    4. Assist the Driver to contact Delivery Office Staff and customers if there is a change in the delivery time (e.g., running late due to traffic).
  6. Listen and take direction from the Driver in an effort to ensure that deliveries are on time and occur in a professional and friendly manner.
  7. Lift, push, pull, and carry heavy appliances/mattresses/electronics gaining assistance from coworkers and equipment (e.g., shoulder straps, forearm straps, and hand trucks) when necessary without damaging property or people.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ability to read and use a Thomas Guide and other maps.
  2. Excellent customer service skills.
  3. Fluency in English (written & verbal).
  4. Ability to use basic tools.
  5. Ability to work positively in a team environment.
  6. Ability to work a 40-hour week flexible schedule and overtime as needed.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. Provide a driver’s license in good standing that is insurable under JBC Limited, LLC. auto insurance underwriter.
  2. Previous experience delivering appliances, mattresses, and/or electronics.
  3. Thorough knowledge of the Portland Metro area.

 

Physical Demands:

  1. Frequent standing for short periods of time on various surfaces while getting deliveries ready. 
  1. Occasional sitting in the truck while driving to delivery sites is required. Deliveries are scheduled for the drivers to be as close in proximity as possible.
  1. Workers are frequently changing positions between walking, standing, and sitting.
  1. Frequent walking short distances up to 150 feet, from the delivery truck to the home for delivery or garage is required. Surfaces vary and can be on inclines or even ground. 
  1. Frequent carrying up to 50 lbs. is required short distances while handling appliances, boxes, hand tools and miscellaneous items. Frequent lifting from 51 – 100 lbs. is also required with 2 people making the delivery. Workers are required to carry 150-300 pound mattresses and other items. Again, there are 2 people who perform this task. Distances vary according to where the delivery is taking place. There are some tools used to assist in the form of a belt to balance the appliance while maneuvering it to the household.
  1. Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. required, occasional lifting up to 150 lbs. Rarely lift up to 300 – 400 lbs. as a single lift (2 people perform these heavy jobs therefore, lifting is divided between them). Lifting is mainly from the ground to waist but can be overhead and at awkward positions as well. Workers use various tools to assist them with the lifting; a belt used to balance the appliance and hand trucks.
  1. Frequent pushing and pulling is required when utilizing dollies for loading and unloading as well as maneuvering appliance and mattresses. Items can weigh up to 400 lbs. Workers also push and pull to install the appliance in homes.
  1. Frequent bending is required in order to perform this work. Proper body mechanics is stressed, however, awkward positions occur when maneuvering and handling these large bulky items.
  1. Continuous use of hand and arms is required to perform daily tasks with gross motor skills. Fine manipulation is required to complete paperwork but this is only done on an intermittent occasional basis. Overhead reaching is required occasionally but items can weigh 50 lbs up to 400 lbs.
  2. Occasional to frequent twisting intermittently may be required while placing an appliance in a home and while loading and unloading.
  1. Workers must be able to climb from an occasional to frequent basis due to the possibility of deliveries being upstairs in apartments with no elevator. Workers must be able to balance heavy objects while climbing up or down stairs as well. 
  1. Occasional crawling may be required while installing an appliance.
  1. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed both indoors and out doors in typical Northwest weather conditions.
