Job Title: Deli Assistant Manager

Reports To: Deli Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hourly

Role Type: Full-time

Working Hours: This position requires flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Weekly hours will vary depending on business needs.

Job Summary: The Deli Assistant Manager supports deli operations by ensuring food quality, safety, and service standards are consistently met. This position assists with training and supervising team members, maintaining inventory and food costs, and upholding Refuel’s commitment to providing guests with fresh, high-quality products in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support daily deli operations, ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company standards.    
  • Train, coach, and supervise team members to deliver quality products and excellent guest service.
  • Oversee food preparation, product presentation, and inventory control to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
  • Manage ordering, vendor deliveries, and cost controls to achieve financial goals.      
  • Maintain clean, safe, and efficient work areas, including regular equipment and display inspections. 
  • Foster a positive, team-focused environment and support scheduling and staffing needs. 
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure smooth deli operations and guest satisfaction.
  • Adhere to the Company’s established policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

An ideal candidate will have experience with or understanding of:

  • Proven success in developing team members.        
  • Demonstrated ability to use P&L and store reports to affect change.   
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work with minimum supervision.  
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a friendly, helpful attitude.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Organized and efficient with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.    
  • Honest, dependable, and willing to learn new tasks and take initiative.

Education and Experience:

An ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:

  • Previous retail, food service, or customer service experience. 
  • On-the-job training is provided for all new team members.

Working environment and physical requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older to apply
  • Ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with customers and employees. 
  • Must be able to stand during the entire work shift.
  • Must be able to work in a cooler at a temperature of 35 degrees for up to 30 minutes. 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. 
  • Must have visual acuity to check identification and process money orders.
  • Must be able to tolerate gas fumes and cleaning products.   
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to clean windows.

Travel: Must be able to travel up to 10%
