This position is contingent upon contract award


The Diesel Engine Inspector MCM/Littoral Combat Ship Specialist (DEI MCM/LCS) provides expert technical leadership, engineering oversight, inspection support, and maintenance management for Navy diesel propulsion systems and associated auxiliary equipment aboard surface warships and military auxiliary vessels. This position serves as a senior subject matter expert responsible for supporting operational readiness, propulsion plant performance, maintenance execution, inspection programs, and engineering compliance in support of U.S. Navy fleet operations.


The DEI MCM/LCS Specialist oversees engineering and maintenance activities related to diesel propulsion systems, supervises technical personnel, conducts technical assessments and inspections, and provides guidance to government and contractor personnel supporting shipboard engineering operations and maintenance programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise technical teams supporting diesel propulsion system operations, maintenance activities, engineering analyses, and technical project execution.
  • Provide senior-level technical management support across multiple Navy surface ships and military auxiliary vessels.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for diesel propulsion systems, diesel generators, associated control systems, and auxiliary engineering systems.
  • Support planning, execution, and oversight of depot-level and organizational-level maintenance activities involving diesel propulsion plants.
  • Conduct and oversee diesel engine inspections in accordance with Navy engineering standards, maintenance procedures, and certification requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering personnel, inspectors, operators, and maintenance staff.
  • Analyze propulsion plant performance, maintenance data, casualty reports, and operational trends to identify improvement opportunities and enhance mission readiness.
  • Coordinate with government representatives, shipโ€™s force personnel, maintenance activities, and program stakeholders to resolve engineering and maintenance issues.
  • Support development and implementation of engineering procedures, maintenance strategies, readiness initiatives, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Navy engineering, operational, maintenance, and safety requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, inspection findings, engineering assessments, and readiness evaluations for leadership review.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

Diesel Engine Inspector: The proposed Diesel Engine Inspector should satisfy the following skill, knowledge, and experience requirements:

  • Extensive Navy technical management experience supporting multiple ships.
  • Extensive operational experience serving as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) aboard multiple diesel-powered Navy ships.
  • Extensive experience, including multiple tours, serving as a Navy Diesel Engine Inspector supporting Navy surface ship maintenance processes.
  • Minimum of twenty (20) years of supervisory-level watchstanding experience aboard warships or military auxiliary vessels with diesel engine propulsion systems, including service as:

* Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW),

* Propulsion Plant Watch Officer,

* Chief Engineer, or

* Equivalent engineering leadership positions responsible for overall propulsion plant operations and associated auxiliary systems.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience conducting diesel inspections aboard surface warships or military auxiliary vessels.
  • Qualifications and certifications equivalent to a U.S. Navy Diesel Engine Inspector.
  • Direct operational and maintenance experience within the last five (5) years involving:

* Diesel main propulsion systems,

* Diesel generators,

* Associated control systems, and

* Auxiliary systems currently utilized by the U.S. Navy.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with senior military leadership, civilian personnel, and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting Navy fleet readiness, modernization, or lifecycle sustainment programs.
  • Experience supporting shipyard, depot maintenance, waterfront engineering, or propulsion system modernization activities.
  • Familiarity with Navy engineering documentation systems, maintenance databases, and technical reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting or managing engineering and maintenance support contracts.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or associate degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

Work Environment

  • Work may be performed in office environments, shipboard locations, waterfront operations areas, maintenance facilities, or shipyards.
  • Position may require travel to fleet concentration areas, operational commands, maintenance facilities, and shipboard locations in support of inspections, maintenance activities, and operational readiness efforts.

Security Clearance

  • Active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher) required.
