Job description
AMETEK's Advanced Measurement Technology (AMT) business unit, within the Materials Analysis Division of AMETEK's Electronic Instruments Group, is seeking a hands-on Cost Accountant. This role supports operational and accounting activities, requiring strong organization, communication skills, and an understanding of manufacturing accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Costing Activities
- Ensure accurate product costing, including review of BOMs, overhead rates, and related components
- Provide cost analysis to support pricing reviews
- Perform make vs. buy analysis
- Lead the annual standard cost review process
- Coordinate the annual physical inventory in Oak Ridge and Athens sites and perform monthly cycle count spot checks
- Create and monitor accounting for special projects
- Support Operations by developing and maintaining dashboards, metrics, and related reporting
- Plan, coordinate, and assist with reconciliation of cycle counts and physical inventories
- Maintain documentation of procedures performed
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements and support implementation
- Perform other duties as assigned
General Ledger & Financial Activities
- Assist with month-end close activities and preparation of monthly financial statements
- Support the implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls and procedures
- Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accuracy
- Prepare journal entries
- Assist with internal and external audit requests
- Ensure adherence to corporate and divisional policies and procedures
- Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses and communicate findings cross-functionally
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience required
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with standard cost build-up through BOMs and routings
Technical Knowledge
- Exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
- Experience with Oracle ERP systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
