What is deep tech?

Deep tech refers to companies or innovations based on substantial scientific or engineering advances. These technologies are typically complex and require significant research and development, often addressing major challenges in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, biotechnology, and advanced materials. Deep tech startups usually have longer development cycles and higher capital needs, but they have the potential to create significant societal and economic impact. The work in deep tech is often interdisciplinary, combining expertise from science, engineering, and business to bring transformative solutions to market.

What is considered as deep tech?

Deep tech refers to advanced technological innovations based on scientific research and engineering, often involving fields like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, and biotechnology. Jobs in deep tech typically require specialized skills, strong technical knowledge, and familiarity with cutting-edge tools and research environments.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

Deep Tech roles such as AI researchers, data scientists, and cybersecurity specialists are expected to persist as they require advanced technical skills and human oversight. These jobs involve complex problem-solving, innovation, and ethical considerations that are difficult for AI to fully replicate. Continuous learning and expertise in specialized tools like machine learning frameworks are essential for these positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Deep Tech role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Deep Tech role, you need an advanced understanding of scientific or engineering principles, strong problem-solving abilities, and typically a degree in fields like computer science, physics, or engineering. Experience with specialized tools such as AI/ML frameworks, advanced programming languages, or lab instrumentation, along with relevant certifications, is highly valuable. Exceptional collaboration, creativity, and adaptability set individuals apart in this rapidly evolving sector. These competencies are crucial for driving breakthrough innovations and translating complex technologies into real-world applications.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

In the field of deep tech, senior roles such as AI research directors, machine learning engineers, and chief technology officers can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially with experience, advanced degrees, and leadership responsibilities. These positions often require expertise in areas like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, or robotics, along with strong technical skills and industry experience.

What is the difference between Deep Tech vs Data Scientist?

How does a professional in Deep Tech typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during product development?

Deep Tech professionals often work closely with cross-functional teams that include product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders. Collaboration is key, as Deep Tech specialists contribute their expertise in advanced technologies—such as AI, robotics, or quantum computing—while integrating with broader business goals and user needs. Regular meetings, technical reviews, and agile sprints are common practices to ensure alignment and address challenges early. This collaborative environment encourages knowledge sharing and innovation, making it essential for Deep Tech professionals to communicate complex ideas clearly to non-technical team members.

What jobs pay $10,000 a month without a degree?

In the deep tech field, roles such as software developers, data scientists, and cybersecurity specialists can earn $10,000 or more monthly through skills, certifications, and experience. These positions often require strong technical knowledge, self-learning, or bootcamps rather than formal degrees, and may involve remote work or freelance projects.

Job description

Our client is a rapidly growing NASDAQ-listed closed-end fund focused on embodied AI and robotics. The fund holds a portfolio of category-defining robotics companies, leads and co-leads private rounds, and is scaling significantly off the public markets. They are a lean, high-velocity team and are hiring an Investment Principal to own deals end to end as deal volume scales post-listing.

This role will focus on sourcing and leading investments across robotics, embodied AI, and adjacent deep tech, working directly with the CIO on sourcing, conviction, and portfolio strategy as a peer to the existing investing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and lead investments in robotics, embodied AI, and adjacent deep tech.
  • Own the full deal cycle: diligence, structuring, founder relationships, and board observer seats.
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy, follow-on decisions, and active portfolio support.
  • Partner with the Head of Robotics and Investment Analyst on technical diligence.

Must-have experience:

  • 5-10+ years in venture or growth investing with robotics, hardware, or deep tech exposure.
  • Real deal ownership: sourcing and leading rounds, not just execution support.
  • Domain fluency in robotics, physical AI, autonomous systems, or adjacent hardware/software.
  • Comfort engaging technical founders at depth; engineering or operator background a strong plus.

Competencies:

  • High-conviction investor with clear downside framing.
  • Thrives in a lean, high-autonomy, fast-moving environment.
  • Crisp communication and strong judgment under ambiguity.
