About the Facility – Long Beach VAMC The VA Long Beach Healthcare System is one of the most diversified health care systems in the VA. Located along the Southern California coast, the facility provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and extended care programs. The medical center and its community clinics employ more then 2,200 full-time employees, and the VA long Beach is the health care provider of choice for more than 50,000 Veterans. Active in both research and education, they partner with universities and education centers across Southern California to train a new generation of health care leaders. Primary Care Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in the primary care setting.
  • Obtain patient history and pertinent family history.
  • Assess patient and plan appropriate nursing care.
  • Document plan of care and care given in patient's medical record.
  • Verify transcription of physician's orders.
  • Carry out prescribed physician's orders.
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Re-assess patient's condition and revise plans of care based on identified nursing problem.
  • Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs.
  • Assess and document patient response to medication that have been administered.
Primary Care Unit Qualifications
  • Completed courses for nursing (ASN or BSN) from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
  • A minimum of two-year direct patient care experience within the last three years. VA experience is desirable.
  • Must have Basic Life Support certification.
  • Must provide current proof of immunizations.
