About the School of Communication and Information

The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) was established in 1982 through the merger of the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, the School of Communication Studies, and the Department of Urban Journalism. SC&I equips students with the tools necessary to succeed in today’s global communication, information, and media environments. Its programs prepare students for careers in organizational and health communication, social and new media, library and information science, and information technology.

Role Overview

The Dean of SC&I is the chief academic and executive officer of the school. Reporting to the Chancellor of Rutgers‑New Brunswick, Dr. Francine Conway, the Dean will be a key member of the Chancellor’s leadership team and will ensure the highest levels of academic excellence. The Dean will build upon the strengths and opportunities within Rutgers‑New Brunswick to expand research, teaching, and outreach across diverse disciplines and schools. The position also offers the opportunity to leverage the school’s regional context—including diverse communities in New Jersey and proximity to New York City and Philadelphia—to broaden the school’s impact.

Responsibilities
  • Lead academic and executive functions of SC&I, ensuring academic excellence and advancing the school’s mission.
  • Expand research, teaching, and outreach initiatives across diverse disciplines and schools within Rutgers‑New Brunswick.
  • Leverage the school’s regional context and connections to broaden outreach, access, and opportunity for students and faculty.
  • Generate public and private resources to support the school’s strategic goals.
