THE POSITION

As a Full time Seasonal DCNR Ranger Trainee for the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, you will play a key role in welcoming visitors and caring for Gifford Pinchot State Park. This position provides meaningful outdoor work that supports education, safety, and conservation. You will engage with the public, learn important ranger skills, and help keep the park running smoothly. Be part of a mission that protects both people and the environment.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This trainee level position includes classroom learning, field instruction, and hands on practice to build ranger skills. It supports visitor services, patrol duties, and safety efforts throughout the park. As a Full time Seasonal DCNR Ranger Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

  • Patrol Support: Assist in patrolling park grounds by vehicle, bicycle, ATV or boat and ensure visitor safety
  • Visitor Assistance: Provide information, customer service and help staff park offices and visitor centers
  • Law Enforcement Aid: Accompany supervisors and rangers on patrols and help prepare written reports and logs
  • Emergency Response: Assist in search and rescue, accidents, first aid and CPR and direct traffic when needed
  • Record Keeping: Complete logs and reports on facilities, incidents, attendance and safety conditions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time, 40 hours/week position with no healthcare benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment in March 2027.
  • Days/Shifts will vary, holidays, weekends, and evenings will be required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of 15 college credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, park management, parks or outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or in a closely related field; or
  • Six months of experience providing visitor services in a public park, forest, recreation area, or a privately-owned and operated nature or outdoor education center; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
