Purpose of Position:


Del Monte Foods is the Foods Division of Fresh Del Monte, a global grower, producer and marketer of fresh, value-added, and shelf-stable produce. Del Monte Foods has a powerful portfolio of brands, including the iconic Del Monte®, Contadina® and S&W®. We are currently seeking a Manager Transportation. The Manager Transportation is responsible for planning, procurement, and execution across Truckload, Intermodal, Rail, Ocean, and USDA programs, managing over $85M in annual freight spend. This role drives operational performance, carrier partnerships, and end-to-end logistics optimization while supporting key government contracts and cross-functional operations. This position also champions cost savings, Lean initiatives, and process improvements to elevate service, efficiency, and value across the transportation network.


Accountabilities:


Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develop and lead capacity plans across Truckload, Intermodal, Rail, Ocean and USDA freight channels to meet demand and seasonal fluctuations
  • Oversee routing strategy, bid preparation, and execution to ensure cost-effectiveness, service consistency, and contract compliance
  • Lead execution of USDA transportation programs, including capacity planning, performance tracking, and bid alignment


Procurement & Carrier Strategy

  • Manage sourcing and carrier negotiations for Truckload ($55M), Intermodal ($23M), Rail ($5M) and Ocean ($2M) to secure optimal pricing and service
  • Develop and maintain strategic routing guides to operationalize awarded bids and ensure smooth execution
  • Negotiate truckload and intermodal rates in support of USDA program delivery and bid compliance


3PL & Operational Oversight

  • Oversee third-party logistics providers and accessorial management in intermodal transportation
  • Support plant, DC and planning teams with rail operations, including loading practices and accessorial charge resolution
  • Conduct on-site visits to drive operational improvements and ensure alignment with transportation best practices


Performance, Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and lead cost savings initiatives, Lean projects, and continuous improvement efforts across transportation operations
  • Monitor carrier performance, manage accessorial costs, and optimize transportation efficiency through data-driven decisions
  • Ensure service reliability and cost control through proactive planning and process discipline


Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead with a collaborative, servant-leadership approach, fostering engagement, accountability, and results across the team
  • Partner closely with Procurement, Manufacturing, Supply Planning, DC Operations, and external partners to align logistics with broader business goals
  • Act as a key liaison across internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues, streamline communication, and drive cross-functional alignment
  • Support team development and ensure high performance through coaching, mentoring, and clear performance expectations


Minimum Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with preference in Logistics, Business, or related field
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Expertise in transportation operations and pricing in all transportation areas, both domestic and international
  • Transportation contracting and procurement experience
  • Solid knowledge of Excel and strong analytical skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong presentation skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 5+ years or related experience
  • Experience managing an outsourced logistics provider, strongly preferred
  • Experience leading change in large organizations
