Job description

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Professional Counseling in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Dallas Baptist University teaches in the Master of Arts in Professional Counseling program, advises graduate students and bridge students, and works with deans and department chairs in all matters related to teaching, advising, accreditation, and service. The faculty role includes a 4-2-4 teaching load, ongoing student mentoring, and active participation in the academic and spiritual development of students within the program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Academic Requirements
  • According to CACREP standards, core faculty are expected to hold a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES), preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. However, individuals who earned their doctoral degree in CES from a non-CACREP program, or in a closely related counseling discipline, may also serve as core faculty if they meet CACREP's criteria for relevant experience. Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) or eligible for Texas licensure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the integration of faith and learning in teaching, research, and supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty members are expected to be loyal to Dallas Baptist University and professional in the discharge of their duties. Although not all-encompassing, the following designates core responsibilities for this position:
Teaching
  • Teach a 4-2-4 load across Fall, Spring, and Summer terms (10 courses per academic year).
  • Courses may include practicum/internship supervision, core counseling methods, human sexuality, research methods, and multicultural counseling.
  • Deliver instruction in a variety of formats (in-person, hybrid, and online).
  • Model excellence in teaching through discipline expertise, effective pedagogy, and integration of biblical worldview.

Advising & Student Support
  • Serve as faculty advisor for the Thrive Initiative, providing specialized academic advising, mentoring, and support to graduate counseling students placed on remediation plans (GPA below 3.0).
  • Advise Bridge students, undergraduate psychology majors admitted into the accelerated pathway leading to the Master of Arts in Professional Counseling program, ensuring proper course sequencing and degree progression.
  • Provide academic, professional, and spiritual mentoring to students consistent with DBU's mission.

Faith Integration & Ministry to Students
  • Integrate biblical principles and Christian worldview into all courses.
  • View faculty role as a ministry to students, encouraging their personal, academic, and spiritual growth.
  • Begin class sessions with prayer and/or devotion as appropriate.

Service & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain a minimum of ten (10) office hours per week in addition to class time and general availability for students.
  • Work collaboratively with program directors, department chairs, and deans to support CACREP accreditation compliance, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
  • Attend faculty council meetings, commencements, and professional development sessions.
  • Submit required reports, including syllabi, grading, student progress evaluations, and accreditation documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in university service, community engagement, and professional counseling organizations as appropriate.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time faculty position. Teaching responsibilities primarily occur from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with occasional variations as needed to meet program demands. Faculty members maintain a 40-hour work week, with at least ten (10) scheduled office hours per week, in addition to advising, mentoring, and program responsibilities.

This position will work on the main campus, located at 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211
  • Must be a Christian and a member of a church that holds to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing in the New and Old Testaments of the Holy Bible.
  • Must be an active member of a local Baptist church that holds to beliefs consistent with the statement above.
