What is a day trailer editor?

A Day Trailer Editor is a video editor who specializes in creating short, engaging trailers or highlight reels of daily events, such as news, sports, or entertainment shows. Their work involves quickly assembling footage, adding graphics and sound, and delivering polished trailers within tight deadlines, often on the same day the event occurs. Day Trailer Editors need strong storytelling skills, technical proficiency with editing software, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. They play a crucial role in promoting content and attracting audiences across various media platforms.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a day trailer editor?

To thrive as a Day Trailer Editor, you need strong video editing skills, a keen sense of storytelling, and proficiency in industry-standard editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Avid Media Composer. Familiarity with motion graphics tools, sound editing systems, and color grading is typically required, along with experience editing to tight deadlines. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with producers and creative teams are standout soft skills in this role. Job description

MGM+ is looking for a talented Senior AV Producer/Editor to join our Creative Services team.
In this dual role, you will serve as a creative force in both editorial and production, owning AV projects from concept through final delivery on a global scale. Leading the creation of trailers, TV spots, sizzle reels, branded content, social-first video, and promotional assets, you will play a pivotal role in driving viewership and elevating the MGM+ brand. This position requires the ability to seamlessly shift between cutting compelling narratives in the edit bay and managing the logistical and creative demands of agency and internal production teams. You will collaborate closely with Creative Directors, Production Managers, Marketing and Social Leads, and external agency partners to bring bold creative visions to life and set the gold standard at MGM+. You will also have a lot of fun doing it.
Key job responsibilities
• Edit stylized and emotionally compelling videos, including music and sound design, for trailers, TV spots, sizzle reels, branded content, and social-first video assets that align with the MGM+ brand identity and campaign strategies to resonate across platforms.
• Manage all operational aspects of AV campaigns including production, timelines, asset development, delivery, and stakeholder approvals through internal workflows and external vendors.
• Perform and manage post-production finishing including color correction, audio mixing, graphics integration, and quality control to ensure all deliverables meet the highest technical and creative standards.
• Stay current with editing techniques and software, digital content trends, AI-assisted creative tools, and platform best practices to continuously raise the bar on creative output.
• Maintain and suggest process improvements for efficient post-production workflows, media organization, naming conventions, project archiving and other best practices within the team infrastructure and future development of AI initiatives.
• Anticipate and effectively mitigate production challenges across department communications.
• Collaborate with Creative Directors, Production Managers, Marketing leadership, Social, PR, and Network Operations.
• Make outrageously cool content.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Film & Television Production, Media Studies, Digital Arts or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience editing trailers, TV spots, or promotional AV content at a network, streaming service, studio, or entertainment marketing agency.
• 3+ years of experience producing AV campaigns including creative feedback, timelines, schedules, finishing coordination and external relationships.
• Proven track record in premium television, streaming content and/or theatrical marketing.
• Mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro.
• Working knowledge in Adobe After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.
• Demonstrated understanding of the creative production process, post-production workflows, and production etiquette standards
• A portfolio demonstrating exceptional editorial craftsmanship, strong music and sound design sensibilities, and visual storytelling ability.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines in a quick-moving environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present creative concepts to senior executives and external stakeholders.
• Genuine passion for the entertainment industry and creative content production.
• Unparalleled time management skills and organizational finesse.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Mastery of DaVinci Resolve and color grading workflows.
• Mastery of After Effects
• Experience with Digital Asset Management and workflow tools such as Iconik, Wiredrive, Frameio, Airtable, Microsoft Office
• Familiarity with Tier 0 content security protocols and secure media workflows
• Extensive network within the entertainment industry and agency landscape
A day in the life
Your day starts by rolling into the office on the creative high of yesterday's FROM trailer release while also buzzing with the inspirational energy of the last night's binge-worthy TV show. You jump into the edit bay and work through a handful of creative notes for a new music docu-series TV spot ahead of an afternoon marketing leadership review. Midday, you shift into producer mode and check in with the agency cutting the new MGM+ brand sizzle to coordinate logistics for finishing so that the delivery pipeline stays on track. After lunch you sit down with the Creative Director to review a critics spot for Robin Hood and work through an alternative structure together. Late afternoon you're back in the edit bay, reviewing a batch of your social behind-the-scenes edits that the graphics team just polished up with animation to ensure every asset meets the gold standard that MGM+ audiences expect. As you head out you stop by the design team to trade thoughts with the Art Director about a new album release you both continue to obsess over. As a Senior Editor/Producer and creative collaborator, you've spent the day crafting fantastic content, managing complex workflows, and elevating the MGM+ brand.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
