Summary:

To provide patient, guardians, and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face-to-face encounters during designated hours noted in the designated broadcasting system. Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish to interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/guardians and Cook Childrens Medical Center Prosper health care providers. Provides Spanish Interpretation and Translation for all aspects of emergency care and inpatient care. Act as a Language Liaison between the patient, guardians, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter Services for non-Spanish Languages (via OPI/over the phone interpreter, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or on-site interpreter contract services).
Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in English and secondary language.

  • Special consideration for experienced Interpreter in the following language: Spanish.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology an asset.

  • Previous interpretation/translation experience preferred.

  • Spanish interpreters/translators must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Childrens Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading and writing tests.

  • All applicants are tested to determine their Spanish proficiency level to qualify for employment, applicants must meet minimally required Spanish proficiency levels.

  • Testing will be administrated by a contracted testing service prior to completion of the employment process.

  • Applicants must test at the proficient level to qualify.

  • Subsequent to employment, Spanish proficiency levels are verified as part of the employees annual review. Testing is administered by a contracted testing service.

  • Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained per Medical Center Policy, MC 175
