What You'll Do
As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse, you'll report to the Director or Manager of the Emergency Department and provide professional nursing services. You will assess the needs of patients and initiate, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care. This role will collaborate with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff in providing quality care to patients.
Emergency Department RN Job Responsibilities
  • Plan care that includes goals and prioritized nursing approaches/measures derived from the nursing diagnosis.
  • Accept responsibility for individual nursing actions and continued competence.
  • Take ownership and pride in their job.
  • Respect the dignity and rights of the patient regardless of socioeconomic status, personal attributes, or nature of health problem.
  • Maintain each patient's right to privacy by protecting confidential information unless obligated by law to disclose the information.
  • Retain professional accountability for nursing care when delegating nursing intervention.
  • Formulate nursing diagnosis based on accessible, communicable, and recorded data, which is collected systematically and continuously.
  • Assess the patient in a systematic, organized manner.
  • Implement strategies to provide for patient and family participation in health promotion, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Evaluate with the patient the status of goal achievement as a basis for reassessment, reordering priorities, new goal setting, and revision of the plan of care.
  • Conduct purposeful rounding to assess, evaluate, and anticipate needs.
  • Participate in the review and evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.
  • Complete annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.

You bring a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment and techniques. As a Registered Nurse, your advanced analytical skills are necessary to solve complex problems and make decisions related to patient care. You demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and others. You demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Candidates hired after January 1, 2014, must have or obtain a BSN within five (5) years of employment as a Registered Nurse, or will have the option to become certified in their area of specialty. The certification must be maintained based on accrediting body standards.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana.
