High School & Middle School Science Teacher (Advisory Teacher)

Location: Grants Pass, OR

Position Type: .5 to 1.0 FTE

Salary: $41,700 - 72,850

Benefits: Retirement (PERS), Health, Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance

Start Date: 2026/27 School Year

About Us

River’s Edge Academy Charter School is a small, innovative charter school serving middle and high school students through a personalized, project-based learning model. Students attend onsite classes one day per week and engage in meaningful, real-world learning projects supported by advisory teachers.

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Science Teacher / Advisory Teacher who is passionate about hands-on learning, student relationships, and designing engaging science experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

Position Overview

The Science Teacher serves as both a content expert and advisory teacher, providing science instruction during weekly onsite classes, designing engaging, project-based learning experiences, and meeting with a caseload of students.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning Design

  • Plan and facilitate engaging, hands-on science classes (middle and high school) one day per week

  • Design and support project-based learning (PBL) experiences aligned to science standards

  • Develop interdisciplinary projects that connect science to real-world applications

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities

  • Incorporate labs, experiments, and inquiry-based learning opportunities

  • Manage and grade student coursework through Canvas in online science classes.

Advisory & Student Support

  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students, building strong relationships with students and families

  • Monitor academic progress and support goal-setting and accountability

  • Provide feedback on student work, including projects and portfolios

  • Assessment & Communication

  • Assess student learning through projects, presentations, and other performance-based methods

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with students and families

  • Track student progress and provide regular updates

Collaboration & School Community

  • Collaborate with staff to design interdisciplinary projects and improve instructional practices

  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school events

  • Contribute to a positive, student-centered school culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or related field (required)

  • Valid teaching credential (or ability to obtain in Oregon)

  • Experience with project-based learning, advisory models, or alternative education preferred

  • Ability to make complex scientific concepts engaging and accessible to students

  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills

Work Schedule

  • One full day per week onsite teaching science classes

  • Additional time for planning, project design, student feedback, and meetings
