This position is available to Virginia residents as Richmond or Lynchburg, VA hybrid in-office applicants or remote applicants residing in states/locations under Eastern or Central Standard Time: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia or Wisconsin.

*Hybrid in-office would be required if you reside within 50 miles of our Richmond or Lynchburg, VA office. Required in-office days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

YOUR ROLE

Drive the end-to-end management of enterprise storage platforms, data protection solutions, and recovery capabilities across multi-site datacenter environments while Genworth continues to advance a rapidly developing modernization strategy. This leader ensures data durability, availability, and recoverability while advancing next generation protection strategies with a strong understanding of data lifecycle management, financial stewardship, and team leadership. The role balances strategic planning with hands on oversight of storage, backup, and recovery operations, aligning data services with business and regulatory needs.

What you will be doing

Datacenter Operations:

  • Oversee multi-site storage and data protection environments to ensure optimal performance, capacity, and availability of enterprise storage platforms and backup services.
  • Manage the portfolio of storage technologies and backup solutions to meet scalability, resiliency, and retention objectives aligned with enterprise strategy such as NetApp, EMC Isilion, Commvault.

Service Delivery and Reliability:

  • Develop and enforce operational procedures and best practices for storage systems, backup platforms, and recovery processes through a combination of system administrators and support staff.
  • Monitor system health, data integrity, and backup success rates. Implement capacity and retention planning to ensure long term data availability and compliance.
  • Ensure disaster recovery capabilities, backup processes, and business continuity plans are defined, maintained, and regularly tested across all supported environments.
  • Develop reporting for consumption on a regular basis.
  • Enforce strong data protection controls and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements across storage and backup environments.
  • Proactively manage risk through encryption, immutability, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Align data protection practices with enterprise governance, audit standards, and regulatory frameworks (SOC,ISO,NIST).
  • Lead vendor selection, contracts, and relationships for storage infrastructure, backup platforms, and associated managed services.
  • Partner with site and infrastructure leadership during vendor negotiations and ensure partners meet defined service levels, performance expectations, and cost targets.
  • Provide oversight of third-party services and contractors supporting storage and data protection capabilities.
  • Manage budgets for storage and data protection services, including capacity forecasting, cost optimization, and financial reporting.
  • Drive financial transparency through cost allocation and consumption visibility. Identify opportunities to optimize storage utilization, retention policies, and licensing models to improve return on investment.
  • Define and evolve the enterprise data protection strategy, including backup modernization, cyber resiliency, ransomware protection, and recovery orchestration.
  • Partner with senior IT leadership to align storage and data protection capabilities with enterprise modernization roadmaps, ensuring scalable and resilient data services while reducing enterprise risk.
  • Lead and mentor a distributed team, including subordinate managers and technical professionals.
  • Establish clear goals, provide coaching, and build a culture focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure cross training and skill development to strengthen organizational capability and resiliency.
  • Promote a high-performance culture aligned with organizational values. Ensure operational procedures are kept up to date and well managed.

What you bring

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or 10+ years in IT Infrastructure roles, with at least 5+ years in management of datacenter operations and managing large scale storage, backup, and recovery environments. Demonstrated experience supporting multi-site datacenter operations.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of enterprise storage platforms (NetApp), data protection technologies, backup and recovery methodologies (Immutability, Indelibility, air gap), and disaster recovery practices. Experience with data lifecycle management, retention strategies, and data durability solutions in high availability environments. Knowledge of security and compliance requirements related to data protection and recovery services.
  • Financial and Vendor Management: Proven experience managing budgets and optimizing infrastructure costs, including storage consumption and licensing. Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and enforce contractual obligations tied to service delivery and performance.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management capabilities with experience leading technical teams in high availability, mission critical environments. Effective communicator able to translate complex data protection concepts to business stakeholders and influence strategic decisions. Ability to coordinate across infrastructure domains within a shared responsibility model.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are valued, including ITIL, PMP, or data protection certifications. Experience with large scale data migrations, storage consolidations, or backup modernization initiatives is advantageous. Demonstrated success improving operational efficiency through automation and process maturity.

National Range: $120,900 - $187,000

High-Cost Range (includes New York): $151,100 - $234,000

In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in a bonus incentive plan. Incentive compensation is based on individual and company performance and is not guaranteed.
