Job Summary:
SMSI, LLC is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a large EPC project in the Oak Ridge, TN area. The candidate will work with client personnel Line-Item Project(s) to set up system requirements baseline and implement it into a management database for the project. It includes the management and maintenance of requirements tracking database through final system testing and turn-over. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all systems engineering requirements are met in accordance with Project Requirements.
The work will be performed in Oak Ridge, TN and require working onsite for 2-3 days per week and working remotely the other 2-3 days per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Review, maintain and implement existing Systems Engineering Management Plan for >$100 million projects.
  • Functional breakdown of the existing project requirements documentation for development of the System Requirements Baseline.
  • Experience with requirements tracking database systems; DOORS software preferred.
  • Complete training on requirements tracking software to be utilized for the project.
  • Develop and upload Project specific requirements into requirements tracking database to be used to track requirements through, design, construction, verification, and closeout.
  • Maintain and manage the Requirements Tracking Database ensuring the information is current, complete and maintain the quality of the System Requirements Baseline.
  • Integrate system interface requirements and ensure consistency of interface requirements across system boundaries.
  • Specification of verification requirements.
  • Review of designs for compliance with the requirement baseline.
  • Establish required inputs from Project team and design-build subcontractor necessary to support maintenance and update/maintenance of the Requirements Tracking Database as design documentation is produced.
  • Provide requirements tracking reports to project personnel as required to validate all necessary design documentation is produced and completed with associated verification methodology to allow final validation the project requirements will be met.
  • Support development of Requirements Verification Matrix (RVM).

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 3-8 years of progressive experience.
  • Engineering background with understanding of capital projects, project engineering, requirements management, and project life cycle.
  • Ability to interface with client Project team with limited supervision.
  • Can demonstrate technical writing and technical documentation abilities.
  • Basic Engineering Drawing creation, checking, and component procurement.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and able to work independently with diverse teams.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills are required to enable effective interaction and communication with technical peers, program managers, collaborators, and sponsors.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Q clearance.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Candidate must be able to work onsite in Oak Ridge, TN 2-3 days per week and remotely the other 2-3 days per week.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in uranium enrichment or a closely related field is a plus.
  • Active (or recently inactive) DOE Q clearance preferred but not required.

Educational Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university.
