Job description

Job Summary

The Database Administrator will be an integrated member of Cirrus’ Data & Analytics team and is responsible for activities related to the deployment, implementation, and administration of databases including control, maintenance and support of all database environments. Databases for Cirrus are both on premise and in the cloud using Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). This role requires a high level of self-direction and comfort supporting the data needs of multiple teams and data products. The DBA Admin will collaborate with the other members of the Data & Analytics team to define our company’s data management and architecture to support our next generation of data products and initiatives. This position will be part of the Information Technology team.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Work with a team of both internal and external resources to ensure a reliable, stable, and resilient environment of databases, and serve as point of contact for database activities.
  • Under the direction of the Sr DBA, design, configure, implement, and administer all databases for the respective parties involved.
  • Planning, developing, coordinating and executing database patching process through effective engagement with functional owners and managed service providers.
  • Under the direction of the Sr DBA, develop new and enhance existing standards, documentation, processes, procedures, and guidelines in support of data governance for database environments using industry experiences, best practices research, and business needs.
  • Monitor the service health and security posture of the organization’s database footprint and act accordingly to events and threats.
  • Identify and resolve all issues related to database systems to ensure that systems are online and without service interruption.
  • Analyze and report the performance of database operations against the key database performance metrics.
  • Contribute to and participate in change management process to effectively manage change when implementing process, technology, or organizational change and post-mortem, as required.
  • Escalate and/ or manages crisis issues.
  • Assists in mentoring other team members.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in a Database Administrator role.
  • 2+ years of experience related to performance tuning and optimizing database processing.
  • Experience with managing, implementing, and maintaining a cloud-based database platform, preferably Azure Cloud preferred.
  • Knowledge of Azure tools (Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse) preferred.
  • Ability to manage tasks and work independently in a professional, deadline-based environment. Communication skills to effectively participate in team-based client delivery projects.
