Job description

About the Job:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) / Medium-Risk federal agency security clearance.
  • Location: Hybrid work environment / 80% Remote – Candidate must live within 2 hours of a government facility.

Database Administration & Operations:
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments across development, test, staging, and production systems.
  • Manage database instances, schemas, users, and storage structures to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Monitor and tune database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve throughput and response times.

High Availability, Backup & Recovery:
  • Design and manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including replication, clustering, Data Guard, streaming replication, and failover strategies.
  • Implement and manage robust backup, recovery, and retention policies using tools such as RMAN (Oracle) and pgBackRest or similar solutions (PostgreSQL).
  • Conduct regular disaster recovery tests and document procedures.

Security & Compliance:
  • Implement database security policies, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Apply patches, perform vulnerability assessments, and support audits by providing required database evidence and documentation.

Development & Optimization:
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, and application teams to design efficient database schemas, queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
  • Design and implement robust data warehouse solutions, leveraging best practices for schema design, partitioning, and optimized query performance.
  • Conduct code reviews, performance tuning, and query optimization to improve application performance.

  • Implement and maintain database monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database incidents, including performance degradation and outages.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation and planned maintenance activities.

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience as a production DBA supporting large-scale PostgreSQL and Oracle environments.
  • Strong experience with database installation, configuration, patching, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Expertise with replication, clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong skills in SQL and PL/pgSQL/PL/SQL, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
    • MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL ServerMongoDB, or Oracle Database Engineering.
  • Proficiency with database monitoring and automation tools (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and operational tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop ETL pipelines, data governance strategies, and reporting solutions within the OCI ecosystem.
  • Monitor, tune, and troubleshoot environments, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues to maintain high system health.
  • Document configurations, procedures, and best practices for ADB management, security policies, and migration strategies.
  • Familiarity with multiple RDMS products in addition to Oracle’s on premise and cloud services to include:
  • Install and use Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor, manage, and optimize Autonomous Database (ADB) environments, ensuring comprehensive performance analysis, alerting, and reporting.

Preferred:
  • Experience with database migrations, cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure Database, Oracle Cloud), or hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or PostgreSQL Professional Certification are highly desirable.
