Position-AWS Data Migration Specialist
Location-Torrance, CA (Onsite)
Role Overview
  • An experienced minimum 15 years AWS Database Migration Specialist to lead and execute database migration projects to AWS.
  • The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AWS Database Migration Service DMS, AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and related AWS services, ensuring secure, efficient, and low downtime migrations.
  • Should have successfully executed at least 5 Database Migration projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement database migration strategies for on premises and cloud environments (both non-production and production)
  • Configure and manage AWS DMS replication instances, endpoints, and tasks.
  • Perform schema conversion using AWS SCT for homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations.
  • Optimize migration performance and troubleshoot issues during full load and CDC (Change Data Capture)
  • Validate migrated data and ensure compliance with security and governance standards.
  • Collaborate with DBAs, cloud architects, and application teams to ensure smooth migration.
  • Document migration processes and provide post-migration support.
Detailed Key Responsibilities
Migration Strategy Planning
  • Perform pre-migration checks (constraints, indexes, triggers).
  • Design and implement database migration strategies primarily for on-premises and cloud environments (both non-production and production).
  • Assess existing database environments (primarily SQL Server and DB2, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Design migration strategies (homogeneous and heterogeneous).
  • Define cutover plans and rollback strategies for risk mitigation.
Execution Optimization
  • Configure and manage AWS DMS replication instances, endpoints, and tasks.
  • Perform schema conversion using AWS SCT for heterogeneous migrations (primarily SQL Server and DB2).
  • Validate schema mapping and resolve incompatibilities.
  • Apply custom transformations where needed.
  • Optimize migration performance and troubleshoot issues during full load and CDC (Change Data Capture).
  • Ensures data integrity, minimal downtime, and compliance during migrations from on-premises.
Validation & Compliance
  • Conduct data validation and reconciliation post-migration.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards (IAM roles, encryption, SSL). Enable encryption in transit and at rest (SSLTLS, KMS).
  • Validate migrated data and ensure compliance with security and governance standards.
  • Document migration processes for auditing and future reference and provide post-migration support.
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with DBAs, cloud architects, and application teams to ensure smooth migration.
  • Communicate migration progress and risks to stakeholders.
  • Provide post-migration support and performance tuning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
  • Hands-on experience with AWS DMS, SCT, primarily Redshift, RDS and Aurora.
  • Strong SQL skills and scripting knowledge (Python, Bash).
  • Hands-on AWS CLI for command-line operations.
Database Knowledge:
  • Experience with relational databases (primarily SQL Server and DB2, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Understanding of homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations and CDC.
Cloud Skills:
  • Familiarity with AWS networking (VPC), IAM, and security best practices.
  • Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect and AWS Database Specialty (preferred).
Preferred Experience
  • Large-scale Database migration projects ( at least 5) involving multi-terabyte databases.
  • Working knowledge of ETL tools and data transformation processes.
