Duties:
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
  • Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, configuration, and ongoing maintenance across on‑premises and cloud platforms.
  • Monitor database performance and proactively identify tuning opportunities, indexing strategies, and optimization improvements.
  • Support development and application teams with database design, query optimization, stored procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, user access, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to support enterprise data initiatives.
  • Assist in the adoption and integration of Cosmos DB and Redis for caching, distributed data, and high‑performance workloads.
  • Document database environments, processes, standards, and operational procedures. Participate in on‑call rotation and provide advanced

Skills:
  • 7 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • 7 years of experience with Azure SQL, including performance tuning, monitoring, and cloud-based database management.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, indexing, query execution plans, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with backup/restore strategies, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Proficiency with T‑SQL, scripting, and automation for database operations.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues in production environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
  • 3 years' experience with Cosmos DB (2 years still considered valuable).
  • 3 years' experience with Redis as a caching platform with optional persistence
  • 2 years still considered valuable).
  • Familiarity with cloud-native database patterns, distributed systems, and modern data architecture.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale applications and high-volume transactional systems.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
