About the Role:
Wheeling Housing Authority is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Housing Assistant to join our team in Wheeling, WV. In this role, you'll play a vital part in helping community members access safe, stable, and affordable housing — making a real difference in people's lives every day.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with processing applications, preparing required correspondence and data input
  • Maintain resident files, records, and housing databases
  • Respond to resident inquiries, concerns, and service requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Collect and accurately record rent
  • Gather information for resident reviews (recertification, inspections, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with HUD regulations, local housing policies, and fair housing laws
  • Support waitlist management and unit assignment processes
  • Answer inquiries via phone and in person, perform basic receptionist duties
  • Fill in for housing manager if needed
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in social services, public administration, or related field preferred
  • Prior experience in housing, property management, social services, or public administration a plus
  • Familiarity with HUD programs, Section 8, or public housing regulations is beneficial
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-service mindset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn housing management software
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals
