They work closely with analysts to understand data discrepancies, validate data pipelines, and ensure data integrity. Simultaneously, they collaborate with developers to address bugs in data infrastructure or optimize system performance, frequently participating in cross-functional meetings or ticketing workflows. This collaborative environment not only helps them resolve issues efficiently but also offers continuous learning through exposure to a variety of technical challenges.

What are Data Support Engineers?

Data Support Engineers are technical professionals who specialize in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing data systems and infrastructure. They work to ensure data pipelines, databases, and related tools function smoothly, assisting both internal teams and clients with data issues. Job description

About the Role
iCapital is seeking a detail-oriented and technically capable Analyst or Associate to join Strategic Transformation team. This individual will own root-cause investigations of production data issues, contribute to ETL pipeline development, and act as the primary liaison between Fund Finance operations and engineering. This role will help define requirements, drive data quality initiatives, and build the tooling and dashboards that give stakeholders real-time visibility into exceptions and resolution status.
The Strategic Transformation Data team is an embedded data function within Fund Finance at iCapital. This team partners directly with Fund Operations, Technology, and Product teams to resolve data quality issues, build ETL pipelines, and deliver automation tooling that enables the business to scale. The team sits at the intersection of data engineering, business analysis, and operational transformation.
Responsibilities
  • Perform root-cause analysis of production data issues using SQL, working cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams to drive resolution.
  • Support and contribute to ETL pipeline development, collaborating closely with Product managers and engineers throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between fund administrators, business groups, and technology teams to manage and resolve data exceptions and discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to define, scope, and implement data projects for existing workflows and new product features.
  • Develop exception management tooling to strengthen data quality controls and produce metrics and dashboards that help stakeholders prioritize issue resolution.
  • Define clear business and technical requirement documents for engineering teams addressing new features or existing issues.
  • Build an in-depth understanding of end-to-end organizational data flows and their downstream impact on Fund Finance business processes.
  • Write test cases and perform UAT to ensure issues are identified and addressed before production deployment.
  • Identify and contribute to automation initiatives that reduce manual intervention in recurring data workflows, including reconciliation, ingestion monitoring, and exception handling.
  • Formalize operational knowledge into structured documentation, enabling the team to scale independently of individual expertise.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in a business analyst, data support, or application support role within financial services
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, business analytics, business administration, finance, or a related field
  • Proficiency in SQL for data analysis, investigation, and root-cause diagnostics
  • Proven ability to perform structured root-cause analysis and coordinate with engineers through investigation and resolution
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data issues into clear business language
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and comfortable working across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with private equity, hedge fund, or alternative investment operations and data
  • Familiar with ETL pipeline concepts, data ingestion patterns, or workflow automation
  • Experience writing Jira tickets or structured requirement documents for engineering teams
  • Exposure to AI-assisted tooling or automation frameworks and Python are a plus

Benefits
The base salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000. iCapital offers a compensation package which includes salary, equity for all full-time employees, and an annual performance bonus. Employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes an employer matched retirement plan, generously subsidized healthcare with 100% employer paid dental, vision, telemedicine, and virtual mental health counseling, parental leave, and unlimited paid time off (PTO).
We believe the best ideas and innovation happen when we are together. Employees in this role will work in the office Monday-Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Friday.
