Job description

Position Title: Advanced Scholar (Research Instructor) Location: UT MD Anderson Overview The Division of Radiation Oncology at UT MD Anderson invites final-year residents or fellows with a passion for research and innovation to apply for the Advanced Scholar Program. This prestigious program is designed for academically minded physicians who aspire to become physician-scientists or clinical investigators. Scholars receive protected time to focus on research while maintaining clinical competencies, positioning them for future faculty roles with a strong clinical or translational research focus.

Program Highlights 80% Research / 20% Clinical Effort: Scholars dedicate the majority of their time to research, including clinical trials, while maintaining patient care responsibilities. Goal: Each Scholar will develop and submit a competitive NIH K08 Career Development Award application during the program. Mentorship: Scholars will work closely with leading faculty mentors in Radiation Oncology and collaborate across MD Anderson's world-class research infrastructure.

Duration: 1-3 years, as determined by the Division Head. Period of Performance: July 1 - June 30 Responsibilities Successful candidates will: Conduct high-quality cancer research transitioning mentored projects into independent research plans Formulate hypotheses with specific aims and design appropriate assays Develop and maintain rigorous protocols ensuring data integrity Demonstrate initiative in planning, executing, and interpreting research outcomes Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams Establish strong mentorship relationships Present findings in research meetings, publish first-author manuscripts, and secure grant funding Showcase progress to the Advanced Scholars Council for feedback and refinement of K08 proposals Qualifications Completion of an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) residency or fellowship program MD, DO, or equivalent degree with an active Texas medical license Exceptional candidates with advanced nursing degrees (DNP or PhD) and active clinical licenses may be considered U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (required for K08 eligibility) Application Requirements NIH Biosketch 1-page Specific Aims 1-page Career Development and Mentorship Plan Letter of recommendation from current or prior mentor Why UT MD Anderson
