Job description

Job Description: Geophysical Data Processor

Position Summary:

The Data Processor plays a vital role in Quantec's field acquisition efforts by handling in-field processing, archiving, and quality control of survey data. This position requires travel to on-site field projects in remote locations and may involve evening and night-shift work. As part of the Technology Team, the Data Processor reports to the V.P. Technical, with dotted lines of communication to the Field Operations Manager, Project Geophysicist, and Project Manager. The Data Processor collaborates closely with the field crew, Interpretation Team, Operations Team, and Technology Team, bridging communication and ensuring efficient data processing.

Job Duties:

  • Work closely with the field crew (Operations) and Interpretation and Technology Teams.
  • Prepare positional survey data, including GPX and KML files.
  • Perform in-field data processing and archiving of geophysical data collected on a daily basis.
  • Troubleshoot acquisition and processing problems and provide assistance.
  • Create reports using Word, Excel, and occasionally presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Ensure data quality and meet data delivery schedule requirements.
  • Identify software and hardware inefficiencies and report bugs, actively participating in testing and providing examples.

Knowledge, Skills & Core Traits:

  • Strong MS-Windows computer skills, including data management, programming, and MS-Office proficiency.
  • Experience with command window tools (desirable).
  • Ability to read and understand scientific plots, graphs, and engage in experimental problem-solving.
  • Interest in computer logic, software, and programming.
  • Technical diploma or relevant technical background and interest is an asset.
  • Geophysical knowledge and field experience are beneficial.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor field conditions and travel internationally.
  • Passion for the outdoors is an asset.
  • Comfortable with camp accommodations.
  • Able to work in challenging environments, such as temperature extremes and high altitudes.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean abstract and passport (valid for more than 6 months) are required.

  • Oversee the implementation of safety procedures and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Proficiency in using geophysical software and data analysis tools is an asset.
