Job description

Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Boston, MA; Hartford, CT; Miami, FL; New York, NY; Parsippany, NJ; or Washington, DC.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 3-6 years of data privacy and cybersecurity experience to join a growing practice advising clients on privacy compliance, cybersecurity incident response, data governance, and complex regulatory matters.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on U.S. and international privacy laws, including state privacy laws, GDPR, GLBA, and HIPAA.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy policies, data processing agreements, and other privacy-related documentation.

  • Counsel clients on cookies, tracking technologies, and data collection practices.

  • Manage cybersecurity incident response matters, including data breaches, ransomware events, and regulatory notifications.

  • Advise clients during interactions with regulators, state attorneys general, and law enforcement following cybersecurity incidents.

  • Conduct privacy and cybersecurity due diligence for mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions.

  • Counsel clients on data governance, vendor risk management, data transfers, records retention, and regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on sophisticated privacy and cybersecurity matters.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in the state bar where the candidate will practice.

  • 3-6 years of data privacy and cybersecurity experience.

  • Experience advising clients on privacy compliance, cybersecurity incident response, and regulatory matters.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. state privacy laws, GDPR, GLBA, and HIPAA.

  • Experience drafting privacy policies, data processing agreements, and related documentation.

  • Experience with privacy and cybersecurity due diligence, regulatory investigations, or data governance is preferred.

  • Excellent legal research, drafting, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Salary: $190,000-$240,000, commensurate with location, experience, and qualifications.
