Job description

As Privacy Counsel for Amazon Web Services, you'll collaborate with legal teams and business leaders to navigate complex global privacy regulations, build privacy into innovative products, and develop strategies that protect our customers while enabling growth. You'll help shape how one of the world's leading cloud computing companies approaches data protection and privacy.
Key job responsibilities
- Advise AWS business units and product teams on privacy requirements, risk mitigation strategies, and best practices for global privacy laws and regulations
- Develop and maintain privacy governance frameworks, policies, and processes that support organizational compliance and scalability across multiple jurisdictions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, and business leaders to integrate privacy considerations into new services, features, and business initiatives
- Monitor and analyze evolving privacy laws and regulatory developments to identify implications for AWS operations and provide strategic recommendations
- Support legal proceedings and engagements on privacy-related matters
A day in the life
Your focus will be on advising AWS teams on privacy compliance and strategy across our global operations. You might spend your morning reviewing a new product feature to identify privacy considerations and recommend safeguards, then shift to drafting guidance on how we'll comply with emerging privacy regulations in multiple jurisdictions. You'll partner with product teams to develop features and services, consult with legal colleagues on legal strategy, and guide business leaders on privacy strategy. Your work spans from tactical compliance questions to longer-term strategic initiatives that shape how we build privacy into our services from the ground up.

We're a collaborative group of legal professionals dedicated to helping AWS innovate responsibly. Our team works across the entire organization-from product development to customer-facing operations-to ensure privacy is woven into everything we do. We serve customers around the world who depend on AWS to handle their data securely and in compliance with applicable laws. Over the coming years, we're focused on staying ahead of the rapidly evolving global privacy landscape while enabling our business to grow and serve our customers. You'll be instrumental in helping us achieve that balance, working alongside colleagues who are committed to both legal excellence and business impact.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
- 3 + years experience focused on privacy and data protection
- Experience representing organizations on data protection or privacy matters across multiple jurisdictions
- Knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, including U.S. state laws and GDPR
- Demonstrated experience developing privacy governance frameworks, policies, and compliance processes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working cross functionally across several teams
- Experience advising on privacy legal issues related to cloud computing services
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in mission-critical projects, working independently and often in ambiguous situations
- Understanding of internet services and applications and related technologies
- Ability to set and drive strategy and provide guidance to business teams

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
