The Data Platform Manager is responsible for the leadership, delivery, reliability, and continuous evolution of the enterprise data platform. This role oversees data engineers, architects and database administrators, ensuring the organization's data ecosystem is capable of supporting enterprise reporting, analytics, automation, and AI initiatives.

This individual will lead the development and operation of modern cloud-based data platforms, with a particular focus on data integration, platform reliability, and operational excellence. The role is accountable for the creation, optimization, and stability of enterprise data pipelines while enabling trusted, analytics-ready data across operational, engineering, financial, and corporate functions.

As a key leader within the Data & Analytics organization, this individual will play a critical role in accelerating the company's journey toward becoming a data-driven, technology-enabled enterprise while establishing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Platform Strategy & Operations

  • Lead the strategy, roadmap, and operational management of the enterprise data platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance.

  • Partner with business and IT leaders to align platform capabilities with enterprise priorities and data strategy objectives.

  • Establish standards and operating models that promote consistency and long-term platform sustainability.

  • Drive platform modernization initiatives that improve data accessibility, automation, and business value.

Data Engineering & Platform Delivery

  • Lead the Data Engineering function responsible for the development and operation of enterprise data pipelines and integration services.

  • Ensure data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and capable of supporting enterprise analytics, reporting, automation, and AI use cases.

  • Establish engineering standards and best practices for data integration, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.

  • Drive adoption of automation, CI/CD, and modern data engineering practices to improve efficiency and reliability.

Data Architecture, Governance & Reliability

  • Lead the Data Architecture and Database Administration functions, ensuring alignment with enterprise data standards and governance objectives.

  • Support data quality, metadata management, lineage, and stewardship initiatives that improve trust and transparency across enterprise data assets.

  • Ensure platform services meet business requirements for availability, recoverability, security, and compliance.

  • Establish operational metrics and service-level objectives that drive continuous improvement and platform reliability.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Data Engineers, Data Architects, and Database Administrators.

  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders, technology teams, and external partners to ensure successful delivery of data platform capabilities.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Director of Data & Analytics on platform strategy, technology investments, and organizational priorities.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform management, or related disciplines.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams in enterprise data environments.

  • Proven experience building and operating cloud-based data platforms, with extensive expertise in Snowflake.

  • Experience leading teams responsible for data engineering, architecture, platform operations, and database administration.

  • Industry experience in upstream oil and gas is preferred, ideally with exposure to drilling, production operations, reserves, and regulatory reporting.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep expertise in Snowflake architecture, administration, performance optimization, security, and governance.

  • Strong understanding of oil and gas data domains (e.g., wells, completions, SCADA, production volumes, reserves, HSE).

  • Strong understanding of modern data engineering practices, ETL/ELT frameworks, cloud data platforms, and data lifecycle management.

  • Experience with SQL, dbt, Fivetran, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native data technologies.

  • Demonstrated success leading technical teams and delivering enterprise-scale data initiatives.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to field offices and operational sites as needed.

  • Potential exposure to remote and high-risk environments, requiring adherence to safety protocols.

  • May involve walking, climbing, bending, or handling equipment during site visits.

  • Possible exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) while on-site at field offices.

  • Availability for emergency response and incident management, including after-hours support when required.
