Job description

Mettle Ops is seeking a Chemist I to join our team in support of the Environmental Protection Branch (Branch 1023) at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane. This is an embedded, on-site position working alongside Government environmental program managers in a highly collaborative environment. The work directly supports Federal and State environmental compliance across one of the Navy's largest and most complex inland installations. This is a full-time position contingent upon contract award.

What You Will Do:

In this role, you will serve as our Project Chemist supporting the Environmental Sampling and Testing Analysis Program at NSWC Crane. Your day-to-day work will include collecting environmental samples from designated locations in accordance with applicable Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) under programs including NPDES/Wastewater, Industrial Stormwater, Groundwater Monitoring, Drinking Water, and Biosolids. You will perform field analyses including pH and Total Suspended Solids, maintain calibration records and chain-of-custody documentation, coordinate sample shipment and delivery to accredited laboratories within required hold times, and review analytical data packages for verification, validation, and usability prior to Government submission. You will also support laboratory audits of primary and third-party laboratories, contribute to Quality Management Plan development, and assist the Quality Assurance Manager with corrective action reporting. Work is performed in both indoor office and outdoor field environments at Crane, Indiana and the Lake Glendora Test Facility in Sullivan, Indiana.
