Job Summary
The Manager of Data Operations is responsible for ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and availability of data across the enterprise. This role leads a team that manages the execution, monitoring, and optimization of data pipelines, analytics workloads, and ad-hoc data requests. The manager serves as a bridge between data engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality data delivery for operational and strategic needs.
Education & Experience
Required:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
โ€ข U.S. Citizen
โ€ข Must be able to receive a favorable Interim and adjudicated final Department of Defense (DoD) background investigation
โ€ข 7+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics operations, or related roles
โ€ข 3+ years of experience formally leading data teams or managing data operations
โ€ข Proficiency with SQL, Python, and at least one modern data platform (Azure, AWS, GCP)
โ€ข Strong understanding ETL/ELT tools (ADF, Databricks, Snowflake, Airflow, or similar)
โ€ข Strong understanding of BI and analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
โ€ข Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, and data workflow automation concepts
โ€ข Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred:
โ€ข Experience working in high volume data throughput environment with 24x7 processing
โ€ข Experience with Healthcare data
โ€ข Experience with Cloud based systems, preferably Azure
โ€ข Knowledge of SQLServer and Snowflake
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
โ€ข Oversee daily data operations, including job execution, monitoring, and incident response across cloud and on-prem platforms.
โ€ข Maintain data pipelines that support enterprise reporting, dashboards, and analytics use cases.
โ€ข Ensure reliability and timeliness of recurring data loads, extracts, and transformations.
โ€ข Manage SLAs and uptime for data delivery across multiple systems and domains. Ad-Hoc Data Support
โ€ข Coordinate and prioritize ad-hoc data and reporting requests from business units.
โ€ข Ensure proper intake, tracking, and fulfillment of one-off or urgent data needs.
โ€ข Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to balance ad-hoc and scheduled workloads.
โ€ข Establish repeatable processes to convert frequent ad-hoc requests into automated or self-service solutions. Leadership & Team Development
โ€ข Lead a team of data engineers and data analysts.
โ€ข Provide mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
โ€ข Foster collaboration between Operations, Engineering, and Analytics teams.
โ€ข Promote a culture of ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Process, Automation & Optimization
โ€ข Implement tools and processes for pipeline orchestration, alerting, and error handling.
โ€ข Drive automation to reduce manual effort and improve data delivery efficiency.
โ€ข Collaborate with Data Architecture and Governance to enforce standards and best practices.
โ€ข Contribute to capacity planning, change control, and release management. Data Quality & Governance
โ€ข Partner with Data Governance and Quality teams to ensure accuracy and integrity of critical datasets.
โ€ข Develop and enforce operational documentation, runbooks, and escalation processes.
โ€ข Support audits, compliance reviews, and data retention policies.
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned.
