Aon is Hiring a Data Operations Manager - New York, NY - Hybrid!
Join the Revenue GPS Team as a data Operations Manager, playing a pivotal role in the end-to-end collection, processing, validation, and reporting of institutional equities data on a quarterly basis. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will act as the day-today owner of data for the Revenue GPS team, overseeing workflows, upholding data integrity and ensuring the timely delivery of accurate, actionable outputs to internal stakeholders and clients. This role is the key operational deputy to the Head of Operations. You will run the quarterly "engine", supervise an Operations Specialist, and contribute to continuous improvement as our data infrastructure and products evolve.

  • Manage the quarterly calendar and status tracking for 90+ participating firms, ensuring data is received, processed, and delivered on time.
  • Monitor progress, proactively identify risks and bottlenecks, and communicate status updates and issues to the Head of Operations and relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to resolve data, process, and system issues.
  1. Technical & Data Excellence
  • Oversee and support the loading, validation, and processing of client data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency throughout all stages.
  • Use SQL (and other tools as our data infrastructure evolves) for data interrogation, loading, quality checks, and analysis.
  • Leverage advanced Excel skills for data organization, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting, including custom extracts.
  • Help define, refine, and maintain data quality checks, validation rules, and exception-handling processes, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation.
  1. Stakeholder & People Management
  • Serve as a key point of contact within the Operations Team for technical and procedural guidance.
  • Provide timely technical support and data analysis for the Client Service team, including investigating data issues and preparing ad-hoc data cuts and reports.
  • Manage operational interactions with client data-sourcing teams at banks and broker-dealers to support timely, accurate data submissions and clarify issues.
  • Supervise and mentor one Operations Analyst:
    • Allocate and review work.
    • Provide coaching and feedback.
    • Support their professional development and foster a collaborative team culture.
  • Act as a deputy to the Head of Operations on day-to-day data operations, representing the function in internal discussions when required.
  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve data operations processes, controls, and tooling (e.g., automation of repetitive tasks, improved tracking and reporting, enhanced validation checks).
  • Partner with the Head of Operations and other internal internal collaborators to implement process improvements and support system changes and enhancements.
  • Identify recurring data issues and patterns in quarterly submissions and provide structured feedback into the evolution of data definitions, methodologies, and guidelines.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
Required
  • Demonstrated experience in data operations, analytics, or a similar role with responsibility for recurring data workflows and the delivery of accurate outputs.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL using Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL), including writing queries, views, stored procedures, and comfort working with relational data models.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and basic data visualization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a time-sensitive, cyclical environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong focus on data quality and consistency.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, taking ownership of outcomes and knowing when to escalate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain data issues clearly to non-technical collaborators.

Preferred
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or informally leading more junior team members.
  • Experience working with external clients or partners on data-related issues (e.g., data submissions, quality remediation).
  • Familiarity with institutional equities or financial markets is a plus but not essential; a strong willingness to learn the domain is required.
  • Exposure to other tools or languages used for data manipulation and automation (e.g., Python, VBA) is an advantage.
