Position Description

The Data Center Technician supports Applied Medical's enterprise infrastructure operations by installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining hardware and software systems across corporate data centers and distributed facilities. This role works within a collaborative IT team to ensure uptime, security compliance, and operational health across cloud-based and on-premise environments. The Data Center Technician partners with engineers and cross-functional teams to implement resilient infrastructure solutions, respond to incidents, and contribute to the long-term reliability of Applied Medical's technology environment. Professionals with backgrounds in data center operations, enterprise infrastructure support, network administration, systems administration, or information technology support will find this role a strong fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, rack, and stack hardware and software associated with enterprise infrastructure systems across corporate data centers, Main Distribution Frames (MDFs), Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs), and Minimum Points of Entry (MPOEs).
  • Monitor the health and status of enterprise systems and data center hardware, applying firmware and software updates when stable releases are available and responding quickly to zero-day threats and critical incidents.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software defects, configuration issues, and infrastructure incidents, providing timely resolutions through the ticket queue and on-call rotation as needed.
  • Assist with implementing and supporting enterprise infrastructure, including installation, configuration, patching, maintenance, and monitoring of both cloud-based and on-premise production environments.
  • Coordinate with engineers to design and execute highly available, resilient, and fault-tolerant solutions across multi-data center and cloud environments, including replication for disaster recovery.
  • Harden the security posture of enterprise systems by supporting information security audits, investigations, and compliance verification against corporate and government regulations.
  • Plan and execute clean cabling of cabinets and two-post racks, maintaining inventory of supplies and spares including Ethernet, fiber, Twinax, and power cabling, as well as replacement components and N+1 spares.
  • Produce and present reports on the operational health of enterprise systems, including performance metrics, support services status, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers, managing contractor engagements to ensure work is completed to scope and within budget.
  • Assist with business continuity planning and the development of protocols to minimize disruption in the event of emergencies or data loss.

  • More than two years of experience working in an information technology field or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on technical experience.
  • Knowledge of on-premise and cloud-connected enterprise infrastructure systems, including hyper-converged systems, servers, routers, switches (physical and software-defined), firewalls, web filters, load balancers, server and desktop virtualization, and cloud computing platforms.
  • Knowledge of enterprise infrastructure software, including Microsoft Windows and Linux or UNIX operating systems, patch management, virus protection, Microsoft Office platforms including SharePoint and Teams, Active Directory and Azure Active Directory, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), Microsoft Exchange, identity management systems, and database platforms including Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage systems, including direct-attached storage, object-based storage, network-attached storage (NAS), storage area network (SAN), and cloud-based storage solutions.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, including Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), fiber-optic and copper Ethernet networks, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunks, Primary Rate Interfaces (PRIs), Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) lines, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
  • Knowledge of server and network security, including role-based and rule-based access control lists (ACLs), logical and physical security controls, anti-virus endpoint protection, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and certificates.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work on multiple infrastructure projects simultaneously in a mission-critical 24x7 environment.
  • Exemplary time management, prioritization, and organizational skills with the ability to respond quickly to issues as they arise.
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Basic understanding of 568A and 568B cabling color codes and their applications.
  • Knowledge of standard building management protocols, including Modbus and BACnet.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a company vehicle as required.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours during maintenance windows, planned upgrades, and unexpected outages.
