Function:
The Product Data Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of product information across our business systems. This position serves as the business-side owner of product data quality and supports the company's long-term Master Data Management (MDM) strategy by maintaining, enriching, and validating product information within the Product Information Management (PIM) system. This role collaborates closely with IT, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Supplier Partners to align business requirements, system data fields, and digital assets. The Product Data Specialist will play a key role in bridging business needs with technical execution, ensuring product information is fit for use across quoting, sourcing, sales, and e-commerce channels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with:
  • The IT team on data mapping, governance, and system connectivity.
  • Supply Chain teams to capture and maintain supplier product catalogs, specifications, and digital assets.
  • Marketing and E-Commerce teams to ensure customer-facing product information is complete, accurate, and current.
  • Engineering to ensure completeness of technical digital assets are maintained
  • Finance and Operations stakeholders for consistency of product identifiers, units of measure, and hierarchy alignment.

Maintain Product Information Accuracy
  • Administer and update product attributes, specifications, and digital assets within the PIM (Salsify) and ERP environments.
  • Validate supplier-provided data for accuracy, completeness, and format consistency.
  • Monitor and report data completeness using dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Support the MDM Journey
  • Act as the business representative in data governance and MDM discussions.
  • Collaborate with IT to define and understand how data fields map between systems (ERP, PIM, CRM, e-commerce).
  • Identify and document gaps or misalignments in data flows and escalate corrective actions as needed.
  • Monitor Cross-System Data Integrity
  • Maintain awareness of how product data is created, transformed, and used across the business.
  • Partner with IT on data structure requirements, testing, and validation during integration projects.
  • Support controlled change management processes for product-related data updates.
  • Coordinate supplier data collection and onboarding for new or revised products.
    Work with suppliers to standardize digital catalog information and ensure alignment with Pipeline's PIM data model.
  • Develop and publish regular reports on data health, completeness, and progress against governance standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for product information standards and data usage.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Data Management, or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in product information, data management, or supply chain systems administration within a distribution (preferred) or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Product Information Management (PIM) tools such as Salsify or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of data quality principles, data structures, and cross-system data mapping.
  • Experience with ERP and e-commerce data flows preferred.

Ability to:
  • Lead by influence and collaborate effectively across teams and levels in the organization
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to identify data inconsistencies and drive corrective actions.
  • Comfortable collaborating with IT teams, understanding data flows without directly managing integrations.
  • Proficient in Excel or BI tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate business needs into clear data requirements.
